New Rockabilly,

This is a really good album. Paul Roman's voice and guitar playing has gotten better over the years. It would be good if they got back to there psychobilly roots but this album is stil worth buying if you can get your hands on it.

Psycho with Billy!,

This review is from: Last of the Human Beings (Audio CD)
This album is great. Alot of bands are more punk then billy. I'd say these guys play rockinbilly. The songs are not about the usual, monsters, murders and the devil. It's good stuff. You wanna learn more go to www.thequakes.com.

i think these guys are psychobilly. don't listen to these other people. the other people are probably comparing these guys to tiger army (and may i say they suck.)these guys aren't always singing about death and stuff liek msot of the other psycho stuff. in my book they're good.

From the cover of Echo's Killing Moon to the title track to the hidden slide guitar at the end The Quakes take rock-a-billy a step beyond . . . .

Not bad not sensational,

At times I get reminded of the clash, The Rockats, and at times I get reminded of Mike Ness' solo stuff, but I can't shake the feel of the 80's all around. They really tried some different stuff on this one, but much of the changes sound the same. The vocals get better as the album progresses, but the first few songs actually annoy me. I'm hard music critic though.

This was a decent purchase, not one to die for...however a very good album to listen to during the day! The seller was very prompt with the delivery and the condition was as promised! Will buy from them again.

I keep buying every Quakes record that comes out, but I still like the early stuff the best. This is more like the big Sony release "New Generation" to me. It in no way shape or form is a bad record, but it just seems to be the same thing again. I think the same thing happened to the Stray Cats and I guess once you find your sound it sticks with you. This has the Quakes sound, but it is the later Quakes that has that Adam Ant thing going on. I love the rockabilly treatment Echo and the Bunnymen get on this CD, and the deep bonus cut is an instrumental that would give a lot of the more traditional bands a good run. If you are a Quakes fan like me you must buy this, but I still have a love for the crazy raw anger of the first and second records. Those were way more psycho, and the Quakes were the only true Euro style psycho band from the states back then.

Amazing Album,
This review is from: Last of the Human Beings (Audio CD)
Ok, this was the first album i bought from the quakes... after i had the album for 2 days, i bought every other album they had without sampling the music! The album is all around just a great album. I really have nothing spectacular to say about any specific aspect. Everything on the CD is good, there is none of that annoying stuff, like talking for 45 seconds before or after a track. The CD is ultimatly a great cruising companion. Awesome for long drives, when you just want to relax. There is very few songs that fit well into extremities. For those of you psycho's (yes im one of them) it is a must have, but there is nothing in it that is too psycho, one song, (I'm Ill) possesses lyrics that are right on with what psychobilly was meant to be... killing. But lets be honest (still talking to the psychos), not all... not even 75% of the psychobilly songs are all about extreme horror. Which is a good thing because limitations like that on a band makes you get burnt out on them faster. It is one of those CDs that you can really really enjoy driving by yourself, or if you have a friend with you who is unfamilliar with psychobilly, it is also great for that because like i said, this album is very true to the psychobilly genre, but it is not on the extreme side which scares the [...] out of non-psychobilly people. If you would like to try to convert a few of your friends from just "i like everything" (which usually means they dont give music much thought, if it sounds ok they like it) to liking psychobilly. THIS IS A MUST HAVE ALBUM it is a great transition from the alternative world to the psychoholic life style. You know the people i am talking about, the ones that have their mouths dropped to the floor if they heard some of those songs from Nekromantix. But i promise, i have converted many people to psychoism, and there is a system to easing them in. If you are already aware of psychobilly and dont care to make it a favorite, this album is still great for you. Because if you are only familliar with psycho, you would not notice this is a psychobilly album judging by 90% of the songs (pretending you didnt know the distinguished Upright bass sound) hahaha as you can tell i love this album and support it all the way, or else i would not have spent all this time making my report... if you have any questions regaurding my opinion, this album, OR ANY ALBUM, that is either ska, or has a stand up bass then E-mail me... tcupp@recupp.com make sure that somewhere in the subject you put AMAZON in caps, otherwise i will probably look at it as junk email. i hope my comment (ha article for that matter) helped you make a decision |
