5.0 out of 5 stars Our K-2 Children at the Chebeague Island School love this book
The children at the Chebeague Island School in Casco Bay, Maine loved this book. The school has had programs about the Middle East that have included geography, calligraphy and geometric art forms in the art class, some spoken Arabic and a visiting Egyptian musician. But this wonderfully illustrated, gentle story captured the imagination of the youngest age group. They...

2.0 out of 5 stars Where are the illustrations?
Not what I expected in a children's book.

A lot of wordy prose on white pages with very small poorly-done cartoony-illustrations.

The book is what I would describe (offensivly, I might add) as a third-world hardcover.

The drawings are amateurish at best.

If the story is good (which I did not bother finishing, it was...

They wanted to know more about the boys and their animals and chatted about the food and presents that were part of celebrating the end of Ramadan. We hope the authors will produce more stories to share other aspects of Islam and family life. Our local library is adding this book to its collection. Everyone would like to learn about the authors and their family!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Feast for the Eyes and Mind!, March 18, 2009
This review is from: The Last Night of Ramadan (Hardcover)
I bought a copy and loved the inspiring, simple, but elegant text and the exquisite illustrations, with the bright and happy colors children favor. I immediately recommended it to the Head of the Children's Department at one of libraries of the Fairfax County Library System (FCPS), where I work part-time.

It was subsequently purchased for all of FCPL's 23 libraries, and prominently displayed as soon as it arrived at our library! I know for a fact that it has been checked out many times. It's a lovely story which seems to resonate both with children and parents. The friends to whom I mentioned it also proceded to introduce others friends to it, and bought copies to give as presents.

Hope Ms Hamed writes many more of the same in collaboration with her artist of a husband. Great team effort: A Feast for the Eyes and Mind!

Got it for my grandson, and he shared it at school with his friends as well. Makes for a great repeated bedtime story. In a fun way, depicts fasting and the joys of the Eid after fasting. Great book for showing examples of family values too. Wish there were many more books like this for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for any library, August 26, 2009
This review is from: The Last Night of Ramadan (Hardcover)
Once in awhile a book comes along that is perfect for the time and THE LAST NIGHT OF RAMADAN is just such a book. Written for children but perfect for all ages, this charming book wraps facts about Islam, the holy month of Ramadan and the special holiday, Eid El Fitr, into a delightful story about a young boy who is learning from his parents, grandparents and community what this all means. In addition, the book, also, illustrates many of the values inherent in Islam through a very well-crafted story.
Enhanced by colorful illustrations that clearly show the artist is familiar with the desert culture from which Islam emanated, this book is a visual treat for its readers and one that children and adults alike can return to time and time again. Each time this book is read, readers of all ages will gain more and more depth in their understanding of Islam by thinking about the information contained in the text and, also, by studying carefully the charming, family-oriented illustrations which extend and expand the text.
This is a book which has universal and timeless appeal. It is a MUST for libraries and schools and is a lovely addition to any library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a Nice Read, August 24, 2009
This review is from: The Last Night of Ramadan (Hardcover)
I truly loved the very gentle storytelling which portrays a vivid picture of the time and place. The story weaves in several facts about Islam, Ramadan, and Prophet Muhammad in a totally natural way without adding the slightest "preachy" tone. The beautiful illustrations with the bright colors give the book a magical feeling. It is one of those children books that you read and end it with a smile on your face and thinking "That was really nice".

5.0 out of 5 stars A sheer delight!, August 4, 2009

I find delight in the innocence of young Muhammad as he and his brother gaze upon nature, the stars and the lunar cycle with such reverence. Muhammad's dream world allows the reader to be part of the unfolding of this very important period in the lives of Muslims - The Holy month of Ramadan. Learning through the eyes of children has always been a favorite past time for me and this sweet book continues the learning. I was so pleased to learn about Ramadan through this colorfully illustrated and most precious book. I highly recommend purchasing this book and reading it to all the children and adults in your life as it respectfully presents the traditions of Islam.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to share with your children, August 1, 2009
By
This review is from: The Last Night of Ramadan (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book that I would strongly recommend to parents who want to expose their children to the celebrated events of different cultures. What first grabs your attention is the beautiful artwork. The colors are vibrant and take your mind's eye to the landscapes for which the celebration of Ramadan began. The story is easy to read and understand and educates children who may have limited exposure to the culture of Islam. I am looking forward to future publications in the Enjoy Islam series.
