5.0 out of 5 stars no breakdowns? did you hear this cd?
Ok...so i'm slowly developing a reputation for coming in a fixing the reviews by the earless people on this website. but no breakdowns on last night in town? did everyone listen to track 3? "...WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON...WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON"? the beat slows down...it gets more brutal and it's at the end...those who think that's what a stereotypical breakdown...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not true hardcore!
This album sounds like Morbid Angel trying to do hardcore. There's not an ounce of punk rock in it, hardcore stands for hardcore punk and this isn't it. Even old school hardcore bands that utilized a hip hop or an metalish hardcore sound never sounded anything close to this. I wish people would stop trying to do pure metal and call it hardcore. For all these new school...

Ok...so i'm slowly developing a reputation for coming in a fixing the reviews by the earless people on this website. but no breakdowns on last night in town? did everyone listen to track 3? "...WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON...WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOIN' ON"? the beat slows down...it gets more brutal and it's at the end...those who think that's what a stereotypical breakdown sounds like might've overlooked that. and considering that the red chord reevaluated what we call a breakdown there are actually breakdowns on half these songs...there's one on Jimmy Tango's Method, there's one on Here's Lookin' At You, there's one on...jesus people, suck it up...listen harder. Not all breakdowns are chug-chug beatdowns like remembering never, it dies today and throwdown. there are breakdowns on this cd...they just don't sound like all other breakdowns that you've ever heard...and considering that's the main draw of ETID (not sounding like everything else you've ever heard) you'd think people would've picked up on that...apparently not.

as far as the cd itself is concerned, etid is one've my three all time favorite bands, so i'm a little bit biased...but this album owns, as does hot damn, and the gutter phenomenon cd that comes out the 23rd, i've got it already, and it owns too...check out anything they've done, it's all good stuff. and i think the best thing about etid is that everyone raves about their lyrics and how clever they are, including me, i think they're genius...and keith buckley said in an interview that up until their newest cd he was just rambling incoherently...says something about 'modern art'. haha...anyway...check this out. i love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Solid Hardcore Album, June 23, 2005
This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
One of my favorite bands, Every Time I Die. What can I say about their first album (Burial Bidding Plot doesn't count as an album)...it's fast, frenzied, and loud. Hot Damn! might have been THE album that put them on the map, but Hot Damn! carried a more "mosh party" feel to it opposed to the "slam dance til you die" feel of this album. The music itself is more sophisticated in the album opposed to Hot Damn!. I dare to say that Every Time I Die could have spawned a new style of mathcore with it's intense time signature changes and it's frenzied individual sound. The upcoming new album (to me personally) sounds really good...almost a combination of Hot Damn! and Last Night in Town. Every hardcore music lover should have this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars a truly engaging/refreshing release, July 14, 2003

I've found that people tend to either not get "every time I die" or love them. I happen to love them. much of the contraversy seems to stem from frontman Keith's vocal delivery. A friend of mine, upon hearing his voice, yelled "it sounds like he's going to kill me!" with more than just a bit of concern in her voice. It's true, he sounds insane, and I mean that in the best way possible.

The vocals have been called "glassjaw-like" by more than one reviewer, and it's true, when singing clearly, he does sound a bit like the fellah from glassjaw. Personally, I was reminded much more of the Cave In album "until your heart stops" anyone who's heard that disc should know that this is high praise. Keith bounced around from screaming like a madman(literaly) to sometimes surprisingly melodic passages. I know this has been done before, but what matters is it's done well here.

I have to mention the lyrics. I'm not usually one for scruitinizing hardcore lyrics, but these are really pretty clever, thought provoking, and generally well written. and it's about time. check out "the logic of crocodiles" and "here's lookin at you" for proof of this.

This album is near perfect, though rather short. after just a few listens, you'll find yourself screaming allong "comeon and smile you f--kers, it's not often you get this chance!"
every time i die have been getting a lot of recognition lately, and deservedly so.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Composition, May 25, 2003

This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest hardcore/metalcore albums i have heard in awhile. Everytime I Die combines the elements of Converge with the likes of Glassjaw to make this album unforgetable. When i first got it i was shy of it. Now I regret that because it is in my high rotation of cds. The mathy drumming combined with a schreeching but satisfying guitar make it even more enjoyable. This is a must buy for every hardcore fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars F you Sal...ETID is amazing, November 16, 2002
This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
Every Time I Die is taking the beauty of hardcore music to another level. These guys flat out rule. Amazing music, some great (and at times sarcastic and humorous) lyrics, and some great screaming combined with soft melodics that sound much like Daryl from Glassjaw when he sings, ETID is probally the best band on Ferret Records right now.

The album gets right down to business with "Emergency Broadcast Syndrome." From the raw opening power of this track, you know you're in for one hell of a ride. "Enter Without Knocking And Notify The Police" is an awesome instrumental that flows into one of the best tracks on the album: "The Logic Of Crocodiles."

I don't think I need to say much more about these guys, they are amazing, and if you like chaotic hardcore combined with beautiful melodies then you should have this album! Also, if they ever come around to your town, check them out, I saw them with 18 Visions this past summer, and they put on an amazing live show, and are a great bunch of guys with a great sense of humor.

Buy This Album Now!!!

Tracks to check out: Emergency Broadcast System, Jimmy Tango's Method, Punch-Drunk Punk Rock Romance, The Logic Of Crocodiles

5.0 out of 5 stars wtf... every time i die is pretty much the sh*t, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
i'm not really sure how you can hate on every time i die if you're a fan of hardcore or whatever you want to call them. hell if your a fan of original, fun music... there's no reason you shouldn't like every time i die. the lyrics are almost indescribable with words... i refuse to believe that keith was serious about just rambling on the first three releases. this album follows along the same formula as the burial plot bidding war. it's heavier than hot damn! and gutter phenomenon... but that does not change anything... just the delivery is different. i highly recomend all of every time i die's albums. probably my favorite band lyrically

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular., March 3, 2002
This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
Oh man, if you want some good music. This is it. As far as driving music, this will drive you. And as well it has one of the neatest instrumentals I've ever heard, "Enter without knocking and notify the police" is just stuff you groove to. The songs have great lyrics and great music blended together to create a metalcore/hardcore masterpiece. Oh yes, you must buy it.

I love EVERY TIME I DIE & everything they do. I do believe I have liked their albums more so as they continue to make musesick, so this earlier album isn't 1 of my FAVErites, sure..but it is great : ] If u have never heard them, I would recommend starting w/HOT DAMN! or THE BIG DIRTY..and this later on, but that's just me....Now get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars u got a ghost on yr hands, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
yeah this is pretty damn cool. i think its ETID's strongest release, yet hot damn is quite good and enjoyable, just not as good as this. great riffs, drums and lyrics. the lyrics are very overbearing and sarcastic and i think thats why i find the music so communicating. also some pretty sick dissonant melodies with weird dis jointed riffs and angry scream. all in all a great buy for any hardcore music. hard to say who they sound like but this lp certainly kicks. cheers

4.0 out of 5 stars its sick, March 12, 2005
This review is from: Last Night in Town (Audio CD)
I bought Hot damn first then went back to this, and ill say that it is definetly sicker thatn hot damn.More complexed breakdowns make this a treat for anyone who is into those. My only complaint is that some of the later tracks kind of get a bit dull. The first 7 tracks are bad-ass but after that it drags down, but thats my opinion. Overall great cd, reccommended.
