5.0 out of 5 stars The most realistic film about Texas you'll ever see!, January 10, 2009
By
This review is from: Last Night at the Alamo (VHS Tape)
Take it from a native Texan: this film is an absolute gem! The acting is first-rate and the directing is flawlessly transparent. The first scene is about the only one outside, or even during daylight. The remainder happens in and around The Alamo club, a true Houston dive, if there ever was one. There are 7 or 8 well-defined and outlandish characters, about most or all of whom you'll say, "Gosh, I know someone just like that!" Even the small scenes are priceless, like when a couple is trying to decide whether to leave their female relative, who's just met a guy, in the club. "The hell with her! Let her go!," the man keeps repeating, while his wife isn't so sure. It's just pure Texana, all the way. It's also pretty short, so doesn't wear out its welcome. When it's all over, you'll feel like you've been holin' up at The Alamo for years. Whether that's good or bad, you'll have to say. KCTexan sez, "Y'all git on this 'un."

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest indie films of all time!, February 22, 2009
This review is from: Last Night at the Alamo (VHS Tape)
This is the film that, along with STRANGER THAN PARADISE, made me want to make movies. It showed what could be done with a great script, a good cast, talent, but no money. I'm not going to rehash the plot, but instead make my plea for someone to put this out on DVD! C'mon Criterion, where are you when we really need you? A great movie that deserves an epic DVD release. Someone...anyone...please...
