5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Celtic albums, February 11, 2007

One of the finer all around albums of Celtic music, including ballads as well as lively jigs and reels, on Uillean pipes, fiddle, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, and keyboard, among others. The musicanship and production quality are excellent, with high energy levels and arrangements that avoid the repetitiveness that sometimes afflicts folk music. Lead singer Connie Dover is one of the best, with an unusually lovely, clear and strong soprano. I'm not a huge fan of slow ballads, but her voice is fine enough that I enjoy hers. My favorites though are her two faster songs on this album, the title song and Dark Haired Jimmy Owen. The weakest song is the Drummer Boy of Shiloh, the only one sung by Michael Dugger instead of Dover, and it breaks the mood of the album. Sung by someone with a better voice, or at least a style more compatible with the rest of the album, the song would work fine. As it is, I wish they'd left it off. On the whole, though, it's an excellent album, comparable to Altan's Harvest Storm, and I'm sorry to see it is not more readily available.
