This review is from: The Last Outpost, Book 3 (Mobile Suit Gundam G-Unit) (Paperback)
Created by Koichi Tokita and translated by TOKYOPOP, it's the third and final installment of "The Last Outpost," the manga side-story to the "Gundam Wing" anime. In the last volume, the embattled MO-V space colony is still under attack by OZ Prize forces for possession of the G-Unit mobile suits. When the Bernett brothers recover 3 Gundams, they offer MO-V a glimmer of hope for victory and survival. Odin Bernett also rescues the beautiful and mysterious Luna Armonia, the sole survivor of a cargo ship attack. On the opposite side of the battlefield Dr. Berg, creator of the G-Units, continues to work behind the scenes to hatch yet another plot to make the most powerful weapons in the universe his own. It all comes down to the story's thrilling climax!
Well, it's not all that thrilling. While "The Last Outpost" casts aside the philosophical mumbo jumbo of "Wing" in favor of more giant robot action (not to mention another cameo appearance by a lesser-known "Wing" character), you still see stuff that are--in the world of Gundam--cliché: mid-series mech upgrades, devious plans to destroy the Earth, wacko pilots who shouldn't operate heavy machinery, and even the hero's doomed love interest (actually a first in the After Colony universe). Still, with Tokita's top-notch artwork and a solid storyline, "The Last Outpost" doesn't disappoint. Included is another helping of chibi goodness with the "Go for It, Domon! Gundam Party" mini comics and a sneak peek at the "Mobile Fighter G Gundam" manga. This comic is rated Y for Youth: Violence. |
