5.0 out of 5 stars Downey at his best, April 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Party [VHS] (VHS Tape)
RDJ is reflective, contemplative, and inquisitive in this film. He manages to question a variety of Americans in many different walks of life including Bill Clinton, Oliver North, Oliver Stone, a homeless man, feminists, a little boy who is an AIDS activist, and Spike Lee. RDJ holds a mirror up to himself as well as to the people and places he visits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Movie, January 30, 2006
This review is from: The Last Party [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am lucky enough to have this movie on VHS. Before Robert Downey Jr. just completely fell into a world of somewhere that seems to be the land of no return he was quick witted, funny, sexy and charismatic and his hosting the camera's adventure during the politcal conventions of '92 was actually brilliant! Everyone should see this movie. It rules!

4.0 out of 5 stars Flashback to 1992, January 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Party [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie was a flashback to less than ten years ago, when I was more idealistic and hopeful than today. Watching this documentary brought that feeling of hope back, and on inauguration day of Bush, it was really nice to feel that way again. I look forward, somewhat, to the 2001 documentary. However, I am afraid that 2001 is more full of anger and anxiety than in '92. I want to purchase this movie as a document to that election. It really shows all of the issues and I think Roberty Downey Jr. while showing his zany side, also showed a deeper, more thoughtful level that I didn't realize actors and Holllywood types even had!

5.0 out of 5 stars Last Party rocks, October 21, 2009

This review is from: The Last Party (VHS Tape)
This is a smart, witty and very even-handed look at the turbulent world of politics in an election year, and from a brilliant young actor who is just wading into his responsibilities as a voter. You get to wander around both Democratc and Republican conventions as well as the floor of the stock exchange, and talk with people at street level who are dealing with the realities of economic strife. You also meet his new wife and his also-brilliant dad and step-mother. It takes place during the 1992 Clinton-Bush race and is well worth your time, whether you're a movie buff, a Downey fan, or a politico.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great political documentary, June 26, 1999
This review is from: The Last Party (VHS Tape)
Filmed before the whole drug fiasco, Robert Downey Jr. shows that deep down he is a truly intelligent man. He is a great interviewer, and by using his star power, he gets right in behind the curtain with huge political icons. Many stars like him (Christian Slater...do we see a pattern here?) make appearances in this little flick. If Robert Downey Jr. could do this kind of stuff more often, his career would really take off.
