I really enjoyed this book. It delves into deep topics and really explores the personalities of the young men and women who are involved, and how they each react differently to a tragic occurrence. The story digs into a deep topic, involving accidents, death and the legal system. I thought the story was well paced, very cohesive. The topic is a serious one, and yet the author has managed to interject humor amidst the lonely, lost place these teens find themselves in. In a way, it reminds me of other timeless "coming of age" stories, and I think this book has great potential to be a young-adult best seller. My just-turned eighteen year old son is reading it right now, and he hasn't put it down for the longest time! I am in my mid-fifties and want to point out that the story transcends the young-adult audience. Adults will find much of this book to be a reminder of their young lives and relationships. I would have loved to give the book five stars: the story merits that, I believe. However, it suffers from what I have noticed is unfortunately common in Kindle editions: sloppy editing. I am not sure if this is the result of "kindlizing" the story, or if the book actually was published sans editing.
My advice to Amazon customers: Buy the book. The story overcomes the problems with editing. My advice to the author: Seek out a good editor and get this book in print! If other teens love it as much as my son is enjoying it, you've got a winner on your hands!

I really enjoyed this story. I didn't expect it to be very good, proving that expectations are not always logical. The characters were realistic and intriguing and the book really held my attention. I'll look for more works from this author.

Not a bad tale, somewhat slow in the telling, and the overuse of metaphors gets on the nerves once in a while.
But he has a good turn of phrase and some of the phrases made me laugh out loud.

I haven't read this yet, but once I my Kindle arrives in a few days, I'll be able to do so. So why am I writing a review? Simple. I'm a fan. I've read Rick's Ramblings for years on www.fool.com where he's a regular, and enjoyed every one of his ramblings. Sometimes he teaches me something, sometimes he makes me think, but he always makes me laugh.
I look forward to reading this one! |
