Book Description

May 17, 2000
Eric Sterling, sixteen, settles into his annual routine of working at a riding stable near a beach resort just as another summer season is about to begin. But this summer is different. Psychologically wounded by a traumatic accident and diagnosed as suffering from partial amnesia, his recovery is obstructed by strange dreams, locked doors and a mysterious girl who seems to suddenly fade into his life from out of nowhere, much like another dream.

Editorial Reviews

Review

I haven't read anything else by the author but want to. I really liked it and I'm in my 30s. -- C-D

Really intense. Considering what we had to read in school, this blows them all way. Intense! -- Maeve

From the Publisher

This book, offering broad appeal to readers in a way that it loses the prohibitive label of being strictly for young adults, was a lost work. The author completed his first novel the summer he finished high school and two other books quickly followed, including The Last Pony. But this book, a rebellious if not controversial literary achievement, offered something different enough to unnerve the most sophisticated reader, and was filed away and all but forgotten for twenty years. More recently, one major publishing house considered publishing the book, but suggested that it be published as an adult hardcover first. So it may still be considered ahead of its time even today, evoking one word from editors and readers both, powerful, in describing a book that must be read from beginning to end. NAC Publishing proudly presents this early work from Thomas Manley, a unique and very special edition published to coincide with his parent's 50th anniversary, becoming a gift to reader's as well
