Shaw at the top of his form, October 27, 2007
This review is from: Last Recordings: Rare & Unreleased (Audio CD)
As all the last recordings amply demonstrate -- there are three different sets in this series, and I unreservedly recommend the lot -- Artie Shaw was a joy and a wonder, a gloriously gifted and intelligent musician who retired from the business at the top of his form. What more need I say? Oh, very well, then: If it were possible to give this man's music six stars instead of merely five, I would.

Small Group of pros, some great standards, and originals., October 13, 2008
This review is from: Last Recordings: Rare & Unreleased (Audio CD)
Every tune here is top-notch with the small group (quintet I think)swinging on every number. "Lyric", "PiedPiper" and a few other less known tunes accompany some standards, all arranged and performed in the unique Shaw-style from 1954. And the version here of "Supposin" might just be the best ever done! You can't miss with this one!
