5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Cowboy, March 21, 2009

RECORD SHOP GIRL (Northern Mpls Suburb) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Last Round-Up: 25 Cowboy Classics (Audio CD)
Originally released only on 78s, this collection contains Autry's best recordings from 1933-1947. Accompanied by an eclectic range of instruments, CD showcases the singer's versatility which encompasses much more than cowboy songs.

"Down in the Land of Zulu" is a Western swing rhumba jazzed up with clarinet and slapped string bass.... The pleasantly upbeat "Texas Plains" could easily be mistaken for something cooked up by Bill Boyd & His Cowboy Ramblers. Other parallels could be drawn in relation to Lefty Frizzell, Patsy Montana, Roy Acuff, Roy Rogers and Hank Williams...irresistibly charismatic"--All Music Guide
