"lonely counterpoints balance each cue...INSTANT CLASSIC!",
This review is from: Last September (Audio CD)
Silva Screen releases another classic score by Zbigniew Preisner entitled ~ "The Last September", thought provoking from the very first note...from director Deborah Warner, screenplay by John Banville, is based on the novel by Elizabeth Bowen...sets the stage so to speak, of the tension building between the British and Ireland, of politics and class survival...opening cue "THE LAST SEPTEMBER SUITE", tone and mood prevail, Preisner's score fits this story-line like a glove. Some past scoring achievements are ~ "Fairy Tale:A True Story"(1997)..."Feast of July"(1995)..."When A Man Loves A Woman"(1994)...clears the path for this sober and classical sounding score, just listen to the two "END TITLES 1 & 2", leaves you wanting more...must point out the additional talents of the musicians who made this a one-of-kind possible ~ Simon Chamberlain(piano)...Hugh Webb(harp)...John Parricelli(guitar)...Robert Hill(Bb clarinet)...Nicholas Bucknall(bass clarinet)...Anthony Pleeth(cello)...Alasdair Malloy(glass hormonica)...Jonathan Rees(lead violin)...Stephen Sidwell(trumpet/flugelhorn)...and our conductor with baton in hand Robert Ziegler...once again under the watchful eyes of James Fitzpatrick and David Stone(executive producers)...much credit to Silva Records for having the insight to release this beautiful score in its entirety. You might try other Zbigniew Preisner releases from Silva Screen, all worthy of a good listen ~ "Aberdeen"(SILKD-6028)..."Dekalog"(SILKD-6029)...please check out my reviews(...) Total Time: 34:45 on 12 Tracks ~ Silva Screen Records SILKD-6027 ~ (2000)
