Pat Monahan is a brilliant singer, and brilliant lyricist. Whether you like him, or not, you have to admit the man has got one of the best voices out there. I love this cd, because for me personally, I love songs with strong meanings, being sung that way, and Pat does this stellarly on this cd. He as a solo artist doesnt get near enough attention, and his band train, doesnt get enough attention as a group either. I highly recommend that you go out and buy this cd, and Train cds to boot, because this is good old time music, with meaning, sung to perfection. Cathcy tunes, along with a wonderful vocal range, makes for a great cd.

Just What Music Needs!,
By
This review is from: The Last of Seven (Audio CD)
In the days of lost music, lost messages, and lost sound........Pat Monahan gives music what is has lacked for years....a solid voice, a soulful sound, and music with a positive message. In the likes of Darius Rucker, Edwin McCain who all have gone out to solo careers but still remained a main part of their bands, Pat does the same and does it well!
Great cd, make sure to BUY IT, support those great artists of our times and not those that have negative and derogatory tunes, but support the Pat Monahan and D Rucker's of the world as they give our kids and our generation something positive to listen to and they show they will only write and sing what type of tunes they love. Roots Rock Baby! The CD starts off with the 30 second title track diddy, then breaks right into the first single "Her Eyes" which is a pumped up soulful collaboration. Then it breaks into "2 Ways..." which has an awesome catchy bridge that will surely have you singing after 1 listen. Then you get to "Someday" where you get Pat's amazing voice belting and the choir backing him, then right after the soulful sound you get "Cowboys & Indians" a song with an intersting background and comparison's of various societal groups compared to the old school Cowboys & Indians. After the first 5 songs Pat breaks into a risky arrangement "Ohh My My" which will have you hyped and wondering exactly what the lyrics are tied to and looking for the behind the lyrics meanings. Next is "Thinkin Bout You" a wonderful showing of how Pat's voice can hit anywhere on the charts and sing to just about any tune. Then the high point of the mid-album point hits in "Raise Your Hands" a song that will surely get you hyped and will play over and over once you hear it once. Let it get through the intro and all the instruments hit and Pat gets into it with his all, not to mention the melodic background by the choir again. Great song! Then you get "Always Midnight" a classic showing of Pat's slower side and the higher pitched voice arrangement we have all come to love. Then back to a song that has a ton of meaning in regards to relationships and life experiences that you must go embark on and the happiness or an "Great Escape" that every life needs. The album ends with an array of songs that put all styles to rest and get you ready for the replay. It starts with "Ripple in the Water" a great song about wanting to be more, but not needing all the material things. Just enjoy life and be special to someone special. "Girlfriend" is a slower song that explains the story of relationships in this time and age, the good and the bad and the choices we all face during the good's and bad's. The album hits it all-time high with "Pirate on the Run" a crazy sick duet with a bridge that will just send shivers down you for sure. Then the end comes with "Shine" a slow beat that only Pat could really make into a great song and Pat once again showing you the array's he can put forth with his voice. Overall a great album, listen once and you'll like it, listen 2-3 times and you'll fall in love with it. Great Job! Can't wait to hear the next one and really can't wait for the next Train album! Go buy it today folks!

One of the BEST albums I've ever owned!!,

I have been a long time Train fan, and was incredibly excited to get this new solo album from Pat Monahan. I was (again) blown away by this incredible man. His voice is like no one else out there. In our new world of downloading music, this is one rare album worth going out and buying the actual CD. I have owned it for about 3 weeks, and must have listened to it 100 times already. There are so many singers out there that all sound the same and sing about the same things. Pat's music is so real, honest and these are songs anyone can relate to. We attended his concert last Sunday, and truly, he is even better live. If you have the chance to see him live, do yourself a big favor and GO!! I was blown away by the strength and energy in his vocal range. The experience was incredible. He even took the time to come out after the show and talk with the fans and sign some autographs. This guy is the real thing. Great talent, great stage presence, superior voice. Go buy this album TODAY! It is INCREDIBLE!!

Finally Quality Music!,

This is the cd you have been waiting for. Pat has a way to communicate with words like no other. He also has a voice that is crisp, clean and recognizable. Pat uniquely expresses things that are real and honest. Like everyday thoughts put to music. I would pick a few songs as my favorite, but they all deserve a place on the cd. Pat has proven that there is room in the music industry for him as a solo artist as well as part of a great band (Train). Buy one for yourself and one for someone who appreciates quality music.

I never had heard of this artist. I was shopping at a local Target browsing for music and saw his cd. It was the last left. I read it, looked it over and for some reason I said "what the heck". Listened to it the first time and fell in love. That has never happened to me with music. He is awesome.

I have followed Train so closley over the years that one of their Cd's is ALWAYS in my 3 cd changer sterio. One CD that has just joined my ever preseant Train tracks in the sterio is 'Last Of Seven'
This truely is a masterpiece from an amazing man, who in my opinion possesses the most breath taking vocals in the music industry today. Pat's Vocals are standard smashing relief in an otherwise mediocre times in terms of music. He manages to use a range of vocals so superb, that he compensates for the missing Trains amazing musical ability. Buy this album NOW and experience a truley exeptional musical journey. This really is a must have for any Train fan, or equally for those who have never heard of or appreciated (impossible) Trains music.

I LOVE Train. I was lucky enough to win a chance to see Pat Monahan in a private concert and he sounded AWESOME! Before that, this CD wasn't easy to find anywhere but Amazon! It wasn't a CD I totally loved from the very start, besides the one song that was getting so much air-time, but I'm glad I bought it. The more I hear the songs, the more I like them. To the casual listener, the voice sounds exaclty like Train (duh!) but the songs have a different feel. I don't want to say less rock-y & more almost blues-y, but they are just slightly more mellow or serious than Train songs. I just heard a James Blunt song on the radio "You're Beautiful" & it reminded me of this CD.

Pat Monahan is awesome!,
This review is from: The Last of Seven (Audio CD)
When my wife heard that Pat was doing this solo album, she told me she had to have it. I bought it the day it came out and started listening to it since she also wanted to see him in concert and I didn't want to not know any of the songs. I really enjoy several of the songs on the disk and can pretty much loop it throughout the work day.
Now this part is not totally related, but I have to mention it. We saw him in concert just three days ago (11/9/07) in Nashville and it was the single best concert I have ever been to. Even though we walked from the hotel to the venue for 32 blocks (thanks to my handy misdirections) and then having to stand for 4.5 hours because the "City Hall" venue doesn't have seating, we were blown away to be less than 5 feet from the performers. Pat Monahan is a totally amazing performer and I am sold. I hopped on Amazon to fill out my wife's Train collection so I could hear more of what I've been missing out on. Pick this CD up, NOW!

Suberb singer, superb CD!,

I don't know that I can add much more to the CD review than what the others have already said...all Pat Monahan/Train fans know what an awesomely fantastic voice Pat has, and the songs on this CD showcase it so well. The more I listen, the more I love this disc. The only mystery to me is why everyone that hears Pat sing is impressed, but so many people have never heard of Pat or Train. All I can say is, buy this album and play it for everyone you know, and spread the word about this wonderfully talented singer, because talent like Pat's deserves success.
Also, I saw Pat in concert on October 4th, and I highly recommend that you catch his show if he comes to your town. Pat's vocals soar live, he's even better in person! It's almost as if the studio can't contain the magnitude of his voice and do it justice, you've got to hear for yourself- great sound and energy, do yourself a favor and don't miss it! |
