An answer for N. Wells...,

N. Wells at the end of his review said "I hear there is a 9th volume coming out, not sure how much more there is to tell in this series though."
The 9th and final volume of the CLONE WARS series of the STAR WARS REPUBLIC comic line will be called ENDGAME, and it means basically what you think it might. It includes the last 5 issues of the REPUBLIC line plus one stand-alone issue. The action takes place during and after EP. III Revenge of the Sith. Strangely, the first two-part story takes place shortly after ROTS as the remaining surviving Jedi deal with the aftermath of Executive Order 66. The second 3-part story takes place during the Battle of Kashyyk in ROTS and deals with Vos' final conflict at which time Order 66 came down. And the final stand-alone issue called PURGE is what you think it means as Darth Vader hunts down the remaining Jedi, thus setting in the darkness that follows the rise of the Empire. This last issue, well, the last of the 3-parter about Kashyyk was designed by George Lucas himself, so that which sets up the forth-coming live-action TV series. So characters that survive that story are sure to be found in the TV series.

Quinlan Vos faces the dark and sees the light,
This review is from: The Last Siege, The Final Truth (Star Wars: Clone Wars, Vol. 8) (Paperback)
"The Last Siege, The Final Truth" concludes the story of Jedi Quinlan Vos' betrayal of the Jedi, a story that began with Count Dooku's courtship of the wayfaring Jedi from Kiffu in Republic #49 (Clone Wars Volume 1: The Defense of Kamino). Over a period of five months prior to the battle of Coruscant, Republic forces lay siege to the city of Saleucami, where a CIS cell under the leadership of former Jedi Sora Bulq is cloning an army of Morgukai and training them in assassination techniques of the Anzati. Jedi Master Tholme infiltrates the Separatists' underground laboratories and carries out hit-and-run guerilla attacks, while a clone army ground assault is led by Jedi Master Rancisis and supported by Vos, Aayla Secura, Sharad Hett, Ausar Auset, Sian Jeisel, and K'Kruhk.
All the characters and all the story arcs of the past three years are gathered together here in a tale that easily beats Revenge of the Sith for complexity in character and story development. To cover his Separatist identity, Vos is forced into a fiery master/padawan duel in the lava-filled caves of Saleucami, a confrontation reminiscent of the Vader/Obi-wan showdown of Return of Sith. Vos must later take on Sora, his long-time rival for the favors of Count Dooku, and is again called to prove his loyalty to the Separatists by killing his lover Khaleen, who reveals the last great twist in this saga of duplicity and deceit. As they have done throughout their series of adventures following Vos, Ayala, and Tholme, writer John Ostrander and artist Jan Duursema do a fine job of weaving together text and illustration, keeping the exposition pointed and crisp and letting the dialog and pictures carry most of the story. No review is complete without ticking off a couple of weak spots, but there is little in this story with which to find fault, except perhaps the limited space given to Master Zao and the absence of Vilmarh Grahrk. If you haven't read any of the previous Dark Horse Clone Wars graphic novels, this is perhaps not a good volume with which to start. But it's a fantastic one with which to finish.

I was starting to wonder if they were ever going to wrap up Voss' story. I found it very compelling and great continuity. I was waiting for the payoff on the Vos story line. I also like how it leaves the future open for more of his story. The story arc ended nicely. I would recommend this especially at the low price of Amazon. Worth the read!

good reading,

I will preface my review by stating that the only portion of the Star Wars story that interests me is the Clone Wars bit. The graphic novels have been interesting for the most part, and I wonder why some of the more fascinating characters weren't included in any of the films (Asajj Ventress, Q. Vos). This one was one of the better ones in the series following Quinlan as he makes his ultimate decision about his allegiances. I hear there is a 9th volume coming out, not sure how much more there is to tell in this series though.

if you're as obsessed with Star Wars as I am, this is a must have. the Clone Wars series really links together the movies, with a focus on Anakin and Obi-Wan.

This installment of the clone wars has an interesting enough plot showcasing what would happen if the separatists started using clones too. Some background information is also given, most importantly how master Tholme lost his eye. This was a good volume but not as good as volume 9 was.

Folllows the other books in this series to bring you to the end of the clone wars and the take over of the sith, via Order 66. Good dialogue and grahics. Recommend getting all of this series.

This volume concludes Quinlan Vos' "undercover" mission. If you have missed a few volumes you definitely do not want to read this one before you finish the others. I thought this was an incredible story and I was surprised by the events more than I expected. I don't really want to spoil the story because if you've been following the series this has some big ones.

Clone Wars Vol. 8,
This review is from: The Last Siege, The Final Truth (Star Wars: Clone Wars, Vol. 8) (Paperback)
To pewface this review, the Vos story line has intrested me, but never really captured me. I liked the idea of having a Jedi who was so close to the dark side, that he was endangered to losing it all. And Vos is a perect example. In previous Volumes it has never been clear where he stood, and this volume resolves it. I was always more intrested in Obi Wan and Anakin, but the conclusion of Vos was a good one.
However the general flow was not quite as well done as in previous volumes. This had a slow begining, and then picked up. In previous volumes the begining grabbed me and kept me tuned in for the rest of the volume. Tholme was a great charcter in my eyes. They did a excellent job with the Master and Appertence in this volume. There where somethings that seemed a bit off for me though. Certain Charcters were intorduced that I didnt feel I got a chance to know. The two largest would be Akku Sell and Bok. Akku was totaly new, and I didnt get to know hom. Bok would seem to be an older Ccharcter, but I don't remember him in the previous volumes, so eitehr I missed him before, or he was in another storyline outside of the Clone Wars. Either way it was a good volume. 4/5 Stars |
