A complex young adult read.
The characters troubled by life's stresses come together to fight for their dignity in creative ways. The story looks at the complications of a teen's life. THe characters are memorable.

his other books are so much better
After reading Bartimeus and Heroes of the Valley, i expected this book to be compelling, readable, and good. It's not. The characters are flimsy and inconsistent. There isn't much of a story at all. The descriptions are lacking. There are basically no redeeming qualities. I shudder to think that anyone might pick up this novel, and based...

After reading Bartimeus and Heroes of the Valley, i expected this book to be compelling, readable, and good.It's not. The characters are flimsy and inconsistent. There isn't much of a story at all. The descriptions are lacking. There are basically no redeeming qualities. I shudder to think that anyone might pick up this novel, and based on the poor quality, never read Bartimeus.
