5.0 out of 5 stars Caught Up In The Struggle
I really enjoyed reading this book. I got caught up into the struggle. I was afraid for him when his life became threatened and he was in trouble with rival gangs. I cared about him and the dangers he encountered. I was routing for him all the way. After being singled out by three different gangs and a dealer by the time he was seventeen, God must have spared his life for...

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm a Red Sox Fan
For goodness sake - I wasn't even looking at metal bands. I was looking at the Red Sox. I don't care if you have a vendetta against heavy metal, which is pretty stupid if you do. But how could you recommend this over the most historic win in baseball? Avowed Christian Curt Schilling would be disappointed, as am I, also a Christian.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic, December 8, 2004

the curry (somewhere over the Rainbow, with ritchie and dio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Street Fighter (Paperback)
So I come to look at cds by Dio, and suddenly I see this dumb book listed as "buy this instead". Someone needs to leave music listeners alone. Realize that just because someone listens to rock it doesnt mean they worship Satan. And if they do, then they probably don't care what you have to say. Stop being dumb. What you have said to buy instead has no relation to our music.

Nobody is going to read this book because you suggest it instead of music. At all. Stop trying. You're a failure at life.

...if youre trying to convert everyone, what i find most ironic is that people that bought this book typically bought books by Dan Brown, possibly the most heretical books to come out in some time...

I really enjoyed reading this book. I got caught up into the struggle. I was afraid for him when his life became threatened and he was in trouble with rival gangs. I cared about him and the dangers he encountered. I was routing for him all the way. After being singled out by three different gangs and a dealer by the time he was seventeen, God must have spared his life for a reason. This message for one. This is what it is like in Chi town too, just like in California. Funerals are a part of life and so is loss. I don't think they can possibly know in places like Utah. No one escapes the violence on the West Side, not even the white kids. I wish I knew more Ministers who been there or at least understand like this. This book moves fast and is a good read.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Last Street Fighter, November 28, 2004

This review is from: The Last Street Fighter (Paperback)
Killswitch Engage. Slayer. Black Sabbath. Mercyful Fate. Meshuggah. In Flames. Fear Factory. Unearth. Shadows Fall. Guns And Roses. As I Lay Dying. Metallica. Iron Maiden. Arch Enemy. Satyricon. Chevelle. Each and every one of these bands has had "The Last Street Fighter" recommended instead of their albums, and Im sure there are many more. Christians, stop doing that. Im not going to convert. In fact, I think from now on for every CD I see with this book recommended instead of it, Im going to write another 1 star review.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stop The Spam Attack, December 27, 2004
This review is from: The Last Street Fighter (Paperback)
Most of the reviewers here listen to metal. However, I am a Christian; while I was browsing my reccomendations (I am an avid rap fan), I clicked on Only Built 4 Cuban Link, Raekwon's classic debut album. I see "The Last Street Fighter [Explicit Lyrics]" recommended instead of Raekwon's masterpiece. I think to myself, cool, that's a good album name. I don't click the link. (this was last week). Then, while browsing the Necro CD, I see "The Last Street Fighter [Explicit Lyrics]" recommended instead of it. I thnik, that's strange. Then, today, a week later, all of my recommendations have "The Last Street Fighter [Explicit Lyrics]" recommended instead of it. I'm going to go ahead and think the person(s) doing this is (are) a fellow Christian. Let me say something. Music is music. God is God. Stop judging people because of their music. It's people like you that are giving our religion a bad name. It's people like you that have me experience prejudice because of things like The Purga, the Salem Witchcraft Trials, the rape of the Tainos, and other massacres caused by horrid people who claim to be Christian like you. Christianity is about tolerance and love. If you can't love someone because they listen to rap, or metal, or anything, you don't belong in this country. I am going to go ahead and assume that you are prejudiced against homosexuals as well. And blacks. And Hispanics (I am Hispanic). Let me say it again. Music is music. God is God. May Jesus Christ forgive you for your sins. Amen.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is neither interesting nor is it music., December 20, 2004

I looked up Chevelle and saw a link that said listen to "The Last Streetfighter." While browsing many musical listings I saw the exact same link. When I clicked it, I was taken to this book. This book is not music and it is not related in any way to those bands. I would like the spammer to please stop spamming this link.

I hope that some well meaning Christian is doing this and not some jerk trying to market a book. It is annoying because the recommendation links are supposed to help you find music that is similar to your tastes. Instead, you get thrown to a book written by a minister. The implication that people who listen to Chevelle and certain other popular music artists need to read this is insulting. And Chevelle of all groups? Honestly, have you EVER even HEARD the band? Listened to their lyrics? Tame lyrics sung loudly. Nothing wrong with that.

From one Christian to another, deception is not a tool that a Christian is supposed to use, yet it is the exact technique used to market this book. It gets a 1 for deception and spam. I encourage others to rate it the same when they are decieved into comming here.

Next time, recommend this book over another similar book. Leave the music alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Testimonial With A True Message., July 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Street Fighter (Paperback)
The Last Street Fighter for me answered more questions then any other work I have read in this genre. It is unique in that it explains the progression of lethal youth violence in a way that I have not heard before. In the from of a true story. It does a good job of walking you in the shoes of a young street fighter at a time in history, in trend seting Califronia, when the fist fighting ended and the shooting began. It also explains all the social issues at the time that pushed the envelope to the gunfire that we see today and have seen ever since. This book is deep, with redemption and positive take away. I applaud this work and recommend it to the young and any one who cares about young people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Other reviewers, February 5, 2007
This review is from: The Last Street Fighter (Paperback)
It looks like some reviewers do not understand how a search engine works and instead blame Christians for their own inability to recognize if something is a book or a CD. Like words will show up in unrelated list. Why give something a poor review, especially when you have not read it, just because it got mixed in with other things. If just the listing upsets some people that much, it must be good - I'll buy it!

Throw me in on the protest. How incredibly unChristian to trick people into finding this book. I'll stick to my music and will never touch this book. I shall also recommend that noone buy this book. See how your lovely plan is backfiring? Lovely job.
