THE NOT SO LAST OF THA POUND, August 31, 2008
This review is from: The Last of Tha Pound (Audio CD)
THA DOGGPOUND
THE LAST OF THA POUND
Daz released this album a little while after Kurupt returned to Deathrow Records, was this really the last of the Pound. It seemed that way for a while but eventually the two came back together, but for a minute this was it.
1.DON'T STOP KEEP GOING-another version of this song appeared on the Deathrow Records Dogg Pound release "2002" with a verse from 2pac instead of Nas. This is the version with Nas and thankfully features the same beautiful production from Daz. Daz kicks it off first with a good flow and verse, followed by Nas who drops a great verse. I am really glad I got to hear these three together, imagine if they worked together again. Kurupt follows with the best verse of the album, his battle rap influenced verse over this smooth beat sounds great together. Daz and Nas each drop another verse, and there is a diss to Deathrow at the end. Could have been a very nice and successful single.5/5
2.IT AIN'T MY FAULT-this is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album, this is one of those DPG sex songs we all know. The beat is definitely a cool highlight of the album, and the hook sounds great over this beat. Daz kicks things off nicely with a good funny verse about the ladies. Next up is the great Bad Azz who has always been one of my favorite rappers, he kills it of course with a great flow and verse. Kurupt ends thing off nicely with a good verse about guys losing their girls. With a little editing for radio and video this could have been a great single. This is also supposed to be a song dissing Suge.5/5
3.WHAT THE PEOPLE SAY-brilliant instrumental with a nice sounding guitar on this track, great beat on this one. And Kurupt and Daz really hold it down on this song, both dropping some verses about important things to them. This probably one of the best songs on the album, if there was a song to listen to on this album I would recommend this one. Daz singing on the hook doesn't great but its better then his hook on track 9. After the verses and hook are done the instrumental continues and hat guitar sounds amazing, great song.5/5
4.SCHOOL YARD [DPGC HIGH]-this song has a very bouncy and fun sounding beat to it, and is all about these two getting down at school with the girls. The cool thing about this song is that there is no hook; it is just Kurupt and Daz telling a story about them being school. This definitely a worthy addition to the album, shows what these two good do together.5/5
5.GOT TO GET IT-I always knew that Foxy Brown had to have recorded with these two since she was engaged to Kurupt at one time. Daz hits this song up with a g'ed up instrumental for each to kill to. Foxy kicks it first with a cool east coast style verse, she surprisingly sounds at home over this west coast production. Kurupt is up next and destroys the track and rips the beat to pieces. Daz hits up the last verse and naturally sounds great on here, the only problem is the hook.4.5/5
6.SOME LIKK C & SOME LIKK D-this is another one of those sex songs from Tha Pound, but this is not near as good as the last. The beat is cool but not up to par with some of the other production on the album. Daz sounds good over this track with this subject matter, and Kurupt comes with a good verse as well. Over all a good song, but one of the weakest on the album.3.5/5
7.STORIES OF **** WE KNOW-we follow that with another song about the ladies, this one follows in Too Short's footsteps with tales about the ladies. Kurupt kicks it off with a good verse, and Daz holds down the hook. Daz kicks a good verse afterwards with that style of his. The beat is cool but not one of the best on the album, it reminds me of something.4/5
8.JAKKMOVE-what can I say about this song, what an all star line up, Tha Dogg Pound, Tha Outlawz, & Big Syke
[Who is an Outlaw member]. Daz starts things out and also provides a great slow dark instrumental, in fact I think this album was originally made for his debut album on Deathrow [Retaliation, Revenge, & Get Back]. Big Syke then drops a great verse and is followed by the hook. Kadafi starts out the second round with a great verse, R.I.P. Napoleon then drops another great verse, I wish he wouldn't have retired from the rap game. Next up is two of the greatest mc's of all time, first up is Hussein Fatal. He kills it of course and shows why he is the best rapper form the Outlawz. And finally is Young Gotti Kurupt dropping a classic verse.5/5
9.WE R THEM DOGG POUND GANGSTAS-what do you get when you put a great beat with some great verses and a really annoying hook, you get this track here. The beat is real cool, nice night time music right here. Both of them Kurupt in particular switch their flows up to match the speed of the beat and come of nice. But the annoying hook from Daz is horrible, other then that though it is a good song.4.5/5
10.STARTED-this song sounds like it would be right at home on one of those old Deathrow albums from the 90's. The instrumental is one of those hardcore head bobbers that are perfect for Kurupt. And of course The Kingpin kills it, in fact this had to be recorded at Deathrow because Kurupt's second verse is the verse he ended up using along side Daz & Canibus on the Lost Boyz "Music Makes Me High". His last verse will sound familiar, Daz is just on the hook.4.5/5
This over all is a very good release, and every DPG fan should have this album.

Good Album, December 9, 2004
This review is from: The Last of Tha Pound (Audio CD)
If this is the last album from the Dogg Pound it's a shame. Only 10 songs which Daz dug up out of his vaults (like he's been doing) from over the past few years. It has 1 Kurupt solo, 2 classics and 2 songs I skip. It features a few guests as well. Daz put it out after Kurupt went back to Tha Row so it has a message or 2 towards Kurupt and it also gets on Suge knight a little bit. A good album to have for their fans but the worst out of the 4 Dogg Pound albums, but it is still pretty good.
