Pat Metheny is unique in the music world, and even a bit unique in the jazz world, in that he continually reinvents himself and his music. Over the years, though, this has remained my favorite album of his. In particular, I could listen to "Last Train Home" every day and never tire of it. The music on this album is approachable and soulful, moody and artistic. Unlike many contemporary jazz artists, Pat Metheny creates rich layers in his music and the notes seem to flow without force or artifice. Pat Metheny does not fit neatly into any one jazz category, and for that reason alone is worth a listen.
