5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read for any Pike fans.
Ok, first of all, let me point out the very well known fact that Christopher Pike, as talented as he is, does not have that much respect from the critics, much like the Horn Book review of this novel. But that's because of a couple of reasons: First of all, you have to have patience with his books. What I mean by that is, I mean that in order for you to like it, you...

Ok, first of all, let me point out the very well known fact that Christopher Pike, as talented as he is, does not have that much respect from the critics, much like the Horn Book review of this novel. But that's because of a couple of reasons: First of all, you have to have patience with his books. What I mean by that is, I mean that in order for you to like it, you have to read the entire book of his. And, in the entire last vampire series, I think the entire series is one book, telling one story of the same character with a bunch of unique plot twists intertwining. It's a great book, and so is the rest of the series. Sita grows from a cold blooded creature to a character that You later learn to love if you read the rest of the series. The entire series is good, buy it, read it, enjoy it. you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 5, 2001
I read the editors review and I disagree. Im 22 and I started reading Christoper Pike in my teenage years. I think that the way he writes adds a slice of reality to his books. Alisa may seem cold blooded in this book, but you really must move on to the next for she turns into a loving and wonderful parent. One who is willing to shed her own blood as well as her life for her child as the stories progress. I don't think any parent should be worried about purchasing any book of Christoper Pikes for their children. They are wonderful and intriguing, opening doors to the imagination that lead the reader on wonderful adventures of danger, love, and heartbreak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pike is amazing!, November 27, 1999

Pike certainly spun out a golden tale when he created Sita. Alisa is a 5,000 year old vampire that you DON'T wanna mess with. And she's NOT your classic vampire. In each of the books in The Last Vampire saga, she meets a new and harder challenge. And you don't want the story to ever end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Better Than The First Book, March 2, 2006

Ray is adjusting to being a vampire. He is depressed about having to sever contact with his family and friends, and appalled at having to drink human blood. But Ray doesn't have too much time to figure things out. There has been a series of brutal murders in LA. Sita knows a vampire is responsible.

Sita and Ray are going to LA to investigate and look for the one who is creating vampires. The First Vampire, Yaksha, is supposed to be dead. Even if he survived the explosion at Sita's home, he swore a vow to God not to create any more vampires, and to destroy all other vampires. Sita has not made any more. So who is making the vampires?

A new character comes in: FBI agent Joel Gray. In charge of the murder investigation, he zeroes in on Alisa. Will she have to kill this well-meaning man if he gets to close to the truth?

This story is a better read than the first one in the series. A lot more action for one thing, a compelling enemy, and less of Sita musing on what a hottie she is. Pikes writing is a little better. Still, Pike throws in gems like "I like horny men. I feel they are true to their nature." Riiiiight.

this book was the best ever written. christopher pike shows that sita isn't one of those all-american heroes that you see every day. shes not some superhero, but she is the protagonist; which lends a nice twist to the plot. she goes off, knowing that she might lose her life and willingly puts it on the line to save a race (humans) even though they mean nothing to her.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Vampire, since Anne Rice's Lestat, November 18, 1997

this has to be one of the greates, most powerful vmaire book in history!- Beautifully written with great detail and emotion. the book follows the life of Sita, a Vampire created 5000 years ago, through her journeys to save the world from the evil vampires that wish to take over. The story is seen through, not only her eyes, but her thoughts, her dream, and even her imagination. She thought she was the last, but she can feel the existance of another vampire. This is probably Christopher Pike's masterpiece, the best in the Last Vamire saga, and probably the best book ever written

All of the Last Vampire series just knocked me off my seat. I loved Seymour, I loved Sita, Ray, and even Kalika in the next few books. I've read all of them about 4 or 5 times and then I bought the collectors edition because I know that these books will be worth a lot of money in the future.

My fave authors from my teens - Pike and LJ Smith. This series was interesting to me - lot of funny parts, the story was good, characters were not boring. I've probably read the books in this series atleast 5 times... I would recommend them if you are looking for something good.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent sequel, July 21, 2011
Another fantastic book where Pike doesn't pull any punches.

Sure, Alisa has Ray, but they aren't alone in the world anymore and this creep creating vampires at will has world domination on his mind. Trust Alisa to point out to him how a world of vampires would ultimately fail. One of the reasons why I love her: her logic. You can't beat that.

Pike is absolutely ruthless with his characters and drives it home with Alisa. I don't want to spoil but I will say that she gets her heart ripped open in a few different ways. It's sad to read because you want something good for her but it's constantly down one alley of horrors after another. Still, it makes for an exciting read.

Pike doesn't spare details when it comes to gore and maiming his characters so when you set out to read BLACK BLOOD, make sure you're not really squeamish. But again, I think it makes it all the more real and even horrifying. It makes Alisa feel real. All of the loss and gain stands out more on the pages because she truly has to fight for it. Nothing comes easy for her.

The books, though, BLACK BLOOD included, ends with a spattering of hope which I think ropes you in for the next one. I'm anxious to read it. I want to know what sludge Pike is going to drag his characters through next.

While not really YA (Alisa is 5,000 years old and definitely doesn't have a YA voice, even for the 90s), the appeal is still there. It's vampires and love ripped through the shredder. I'm not surprised that it was marketed to the YA audience. If you like REAL vampires with horror and blood and loss, you'll love these books. Just don't forget the hope. There's still hope.
