Book Description

April 10, 2007
Overcoming racism, respiritualizing society, establishing the unity of all people and creating true civilization is the last war. To fight it, we need to understand how society got to this point:
* how racism developed
* why society became despiritualized
* what happened to our sense of oneness

and we need to develop a vision of how the world can move from its turbulent adolescence to its long awaited maturity, a time when all nations and races will become united in a global civilization.

Mark Perry uses the analogy of an archaeological dig to survey the historical roots of racism and the despiritualization of society, century by century, back from the modern day to their primitive, prehistoric past. Holding out a vision provided by Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'¡ Faith, more than a century ago, he explains how humanity can lay the groundwork for a new civilization.

This review is from: The Last War: Racism, Spirituality, and the Future of Civilization (Paperback)
In this book, Perry frames racism as a spiritual deficit. He argues, "What is real is the spiritual aspect of human life...the solution to racism lies in the way we intend to make our future as a people on this planet in building a true, spiritually-based civilization." Perry describes racism as an illusion that has kept us from seeing who we really are, "It is an induced and prolonged state of dreaming that has concealed the truth - not the truth of politics and class interests but the much deeper truth that we are all spiritual beings and that human society should be spiritualized, based on recognition and practice of the oneness of humanity." I highly recommend this book to people who want to change the way they think about race, especially in the context of a historical and progressive perspective.
