5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent as Usual
Carlene Thompson is wonderful. Once I start one of her books, I can't put it down until I finish it. This one was no different. It seems like she just keeps getting better. I live and grew up in West Virginia and it makes her books seem even more real to me, having grown up around the areas she writes about. This book was written in my hometown so it was a lot of fun...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Carlene Thompson is one of my favorite authors, so this book was a real disappointment.

The culprit was obvious from the first time they appeared in the book. Perhaps if their behavior hadn't been so over the top, it wouldn't have been so obvious. A little subtlety would've definitely gone a long way here.

I also found the dialogue to be very...

Carlene Thompson is wonderful. Once I start one of her books, I can't put it down until I finish it. This one was no different. It seems like she just keeps getting better. I live and grew up in West Virginia and it makes her books seem even more real to me, having grown up around the areas she writes about. This book was written in my hometown so it was a lot of fun reading it. I never can guess who did it because it's difficult to come up with a motive. I can't wait to read her next book. I would highly suggest reading this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, November 20, 2006

Carlene Thompson is one of my favorite authors, so this book was a real disappointment.

The culprit was obvious from the first time they appeared in the book. Perhaps if their behavior hadn't been so over the top, it wouldn't have been so obvious. A little subtlety would've definitely gone a long way here.

I also found the dialogue to be very amateur and juvenile. Several times I actually read lines out loud to myself because I thought for sure I had to be wrong about what my eyes were seeing. It just was not well-written at all, and I caught several errors that a good proofreader could've easily found.

I certainly hope the next book is up to what I've come to expect from Carlene Thompson.

4.0 out of 5 stars THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES..., December 28, 2010

This review is from: Last Whisper (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read many of the author's novels and have yet to be disappointed. She is a born storyteller, who is able to craft sustainable and suspenseful romantic mysteries that rival those of Mary Higgins Clark. I am definitely a fan.

In this novel, Brook Yaeger, a beautiful twenty something, has tried to overcome a past that was filled with great sadness, as she first lost her beloved father to illness and then, later, her gentle mother, when she was murdered by her step-father. Brook, a little girl at the time, escaped death at his hands by a stroke of luck.

Now, fifteen years later, people Brook knows are suddenly meeting unexpected, violent deaths. When one of her co-workers, who just happens to be Brook's doppelganger, is murdered, Brook is convinced that her step-father, Zach Tavell, who has suddenly escaped from prison, is stalking her and trying to kill her. Brook knows that her luck has run out.

The book has many twists and turns and, as often happens in the author's novels, the reader can certainly expect the unexpected. The story line movies at a brisk pace and is well-plotted. The reader will be fully caught up in the story that the author has woven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very Good, May 3, 2010

This is a wonderful surprise author! She is from West Virgina and her love of the state alive in her novels. Her characters are real and honest. the novel is an easy read mystery; however, many times I have had to read the entire book because I did not want to put it down. It is so easy to become involved in the novel.

Her novels are not easy to find and I am glad they are available through amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book but predictable, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Last Whisper (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVE Carlene Thompson books, and this was no exception. HOWEVER, I was disappointed that I was able to determine who the killer was halfway through the book. If you are really good at figuring out who the killer is, try All Fall Down or Last Seen Alive Instead. Those will shock you! This book is still worth the read though because it has a love story and a good plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Carlene Thompson better novels!, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Last Whisper (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked 8 or 9 of Carlene Thompsons novels. Was really disappointed with "If you ever tell" and "Since you've been gone", found both books very confusing with too many characters.
If you want to give Thompson a chance, start with "All fall down". I think it's even better than her first book "Black for Remembrance", because it creates such a great atmosphere.

"The way you look tonight" and "In the Event of my Death" are excellent.
"Don't close your eyes" is very well written.
"If she should die" has a very slow beginning, but after almost 100 pages it picks up and develops a humorous relationship between the main character, Christine Ireland, and the new sheriff which really cracked me up.

"Last Whisper" was very thrilling and recommendable.
"Share no Secrets" and "Last seen alive" are not bad, but not among her better ones.
I still need to read "You can run", so I cannot say anything about that one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST suspense book ever!!!, September 12, 2006
This review is from: Last Whisper (Mass Market Paperback)
I just finished up the novel LAST WHISPER by Carlene Thompson. This has to be the BEST suspense book I have ever read!! I actually got goose bumps just by reading the back cover!! Vincent was so incredibly sexy!! I felt such sympathy for Brooke and her troubled life. Elise lended Brooke even more realism by her little quirks! I was kept on the edge of my seat and completely unable to determine the identity of the relentless murderer!! I highly recommend this book!!! Carlene Thompson's fans must read this immediately!!!

Excellent book, suspenseful, a definite page turner. Carlene Thompson has become my favorite author as she satisfies my strong desire for intrigue, along with a bit of romance. She portrays characters who come to life for the reader. Received in perfect condition, and quick and easy transaction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best, February 6, 2007
This review is from: Last Whisper (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read a lot of this Carlene's books and felt the beginning really drag. It took the first 1/3 of the book to get going. The plot was somewhat elementary. I just hated her calling her grand mother by her german name. It didn't flow very easy. There were sentences that had to be reread. I know she's got more talent than this. I'll hang in there, every author can have a downer.
