5.0 out of 5 stars Last Word In...crooning is back!!!!
In the past few years there has been a lot of generic "swing" music and "swing" type bands but very few have the power to stick around or keep up any interest levels. This is not the case with Johnny Boyds new release Last Word In. Former front man of Indigo Swing goes solo and and delivers a album that is sure to impress. Though Indigo Swing is one of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Indigo Swing broke up for this!!!
Give me a break, the few songs on here that are good like Angie's Song are reminiscent of what Boyd did for Indigo Swing. The msuic falls between lightly swinging shuffles and hillbilly, rockabilly, country music. Boyd's vocie ins't strong enough to hold one's attention for a whole cd. With Indigo Swing you had great jazz solos and boogie woogie piano and upbeat...

This is not the case with Johnny Boyds new release Last Word In. Former front man of Indigo Swing goes solo and and delivers a album that is sure to impress. Though Indigo Swing is one of my favorite swing bands, Johnny's new release is not a predictable as some of the Indigo releases. Last Word In takes you from swing, to country to rockabilly all on one cd. It also seems more personal and heart felt then you might expect. The vocal and musical arrangements are fantastic and I find myself listening to the songs not thinking, "which songs are dancable" but more like "I wonder what influenced these lyrics?" Whether your into country, swing or rockabilly this is a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars So it's not Indigo Swing, April 21, 2004

As a fan of the late 90's swing craze, much of my library of cds were thrown out when I heard "All Aboard". That is a great album wich leaves all the wannabe bands in the dust. Is Johnnys solo the same? No, but maybe that is the reason that he went solo, to do something new. Last word in may not be that easy to dance to and it may be a bit more rockabilly for some peoples taste, but I would still give it an A+. After 3-4 years since it has been out, I still have this album on heavy rotation in my cd player. Its a great lazy Sunday afternoon album.

Johnny Boyd keeps getting better and better. The tracks are articulate and performed better than, dare I say, Sinatra. Rarely do you find the performer's personality in EVERY song but Jonny is a rarity among entertainers. This is a feel-good album from one of the country's great showmen. We are lucky that Boyd has hit in the age of CDs because vinyl couldn't take the constant playbacks. This is a truly unique star and maybe his best album.

I just discovered Johnny Boyd and Indigo Swing a year or so ago! It was instant gratification! With Last Word In Boyd has compiled a collection of songs that are great listening, invoke great emotion and just make you feel good. From the hauntingly beautiful treatment of "Lorelei" to my absolute favorite here, "Angie's Song (Baby Don't You Know?)" Johnny delivers as only he can. If you are a Boyd fan, this is a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, June 16, 2007
This review is from: Last Word In (Audio CD)
From mariachi singers to gospel praise, from honky-tonk to good ol'
swing Johnny Boyd covers all his bases in "First Word In" and hits one
out of the park. A thorough testament to Boyd's continuing ability to make one wanna toe-tap, finger snap all night and then cry into a pillow. A finely crafted work that is akin to dancing in the rain; fun and fancy free with just the right amount of love and life's obstacles to get in the way.

The msuic falls between lightly swinging shuffles and hillbilly, rockabilly, country music. Boyd's vocie ins't strong enough to hold one's attention for a whole cd. With Indigo Swing you had great jazz solos and boogie woogie piano and upbeat shuffle rhythms which all made Boyd's slick vocals sould palateble, but here he just sounds like a weak vocied wimp. He needs horns, and good solosists who can improvise , well he needs to beg the other members of Indigo Swing to take him back...
