If you're already a fan of the First 48, you'll LOVE it in HD. Not familiar with it? Well, it's just about the best "Reality Show" out there.

Basically, you follow an actual homicide investigation from the initial 911 call to the paramedic response, family interviews, crime scene investigation, witness canvassing, suspect interrogations, all the way to the jailhouse door. Detectives need to nail down as many leads as possible in the critical first 48 hours after a murder; otherwise, evidence, cooperating witnesses, and suspects begin to disappear.

Gallons of coffee. Trips through the fast food drive-through. Triple lattes. Cafe Cubano. Cartons of cigarettes. Sleepless nights and days as the homicide detectives track down the guilty.

The more you watch, the more you'll learn. You'll also get to know the homicide teams in Miami, Houston, Louisville, and Birmingham just a little bit better in Season 12. Team dynamics are interesting to me; I really enjoy watching the detectives work together to solve their cases. Since this series follows specific teams in various cities, you really do get to "know" each detective quite well.

If you're so inclined, I'd really recommend getting a book on body language to enhance your enjoyment of the show; you'll quickly catch on to what the detectives are keying in on in their suspect interrogations and the suspects' "tells" (like sleeping in the room, hiding in their shirts, leaning forward, leaning back, palm wipes, eye shading, etc.). My recommendation is retired FBI agent Joe Navarro's What Every BODY is Saying: An Ex-FBI Agent's Guide to Speed-Reading People.

This is mine and my wife's favorite show. It's great because no two shows are connected so you can put any on and enjoy that one alone.

I cannot get enough of this show. I DVR it every chance I get, I watch it on Amazon Prime, and I watch it online when I don't have access to a TV. Other people must like it too bec I was in an airport recently on a layover and was watching it on my laptop and before I knew it there were 6 or 8 people behind me also watching it!! We were all commenting and talking about the characters, etc., sure made the time go by faster! I do wish that Amazon would be a little more consistent on the availability of the episodes/seasons that are free to members. Currently, only seasons 11 and 12 are free to members which makes no sense at all. Do they draw straws? Anyhow, LOVE The First 48 - definitely NOT a scripted show (like STORAGE WARS!!).

My favorite show, I love watching the detectives solve these crimes and bring the perps to justice. I'm amazed at how they are able to find small objects and link them to the suspect.

Rather watch this than any of the other trashy reality shows on tv, it's real and current. I watch it all the time.

The First 48 is an ultra-compelling crime reality show that gives the viewer a glimpse into the daily life of homicide detective. Each episode has a new gritty feel, cast of characters, and usually, a satisfying ending. This show is a must watch for those that love crime dramas, real or fake.
