5.0 out of 5 stars Thy Majestie is amazing, August 27, 2008
This review is from: Lasting Power (Audio CD)
Thy Majestie is one of the best power metal bands to come out of Italy. End of story. The one star given below is so far gone off the deep end its ridiculous. I own over $5,000 worth of original power metal CDs and thus have at least a little knowledge on this genre. The one star rater was simply malicious and confused. Anyways, amazing and very talented bad. Also, extremely down to earth as most individual in power metal bands are. I ordered a few of their CDs at one time and one was out of stock so they wrote me a handwritten letter of apology and taped Euro's to the page for my money back. These guys rule. Power Metal for life!

5.0 out of 5 stars This one's for leverage, November 26, 2006
This review is from: Lasting Power (Audio CD)
After reading the venomous, subjectively brutal review listed below, I thought I'd try to balance this out a little. This album doesn't deserve one star. But what bothered me most was the vicious summation, which ridiculed the cover art, the interludes between songs, and tried to make one believe this band is obsessed with becoming "Rhapsody" (now "Rhapsody of Fire"). I've heard "Jean D' Arc" and "Hastings", and don't think they sound a whit like Rhapsody. It's not a fair comparison, simply because both bands hail from Italy and are characterized by symphonic elements. Hell, Thy Majestie should be praised because they don't incorporate the dreadful "narration" inherent in many Rhapsody songs. To me, "Hastings" is a masterpiece. I haven't heard a more intricate, melodic, and inspired symphonic metal album--the bandmembers are obviously very gifted composers. They took a step backward with "Arc", but they are still undeniably talented, and "Hastings" is a landmark album. To undermine them so savagely with a condescending Amazon review is unfair--after all, they are musicians trying to earn a living, and have recorded some brilliant music. Save your malice and aggression for artists who really deserve it--like all the pop juggernauts you see in MTV videos....

1.0 out of 5 stars Italian Rip-Off Artists in more ways than one!, August 5, 2006
This review is from: Lasting Power (Audio CD)
OK, I'm really sorry, but this album sucks! And this band is totally overrated!

I had always heard such tremendous things about THY MAJESTIE, about how they were so talented and the next best thing to RHAPSODY on planet earth. Oh, yes, there's no question this is symphonic power metal. It's obvious these guys listened to every album from the Italian originators and legends of the genre and tried desperately to copy them at every turn.

But alas, cream rises to the top, while stinky curds like this band fall to the bottom! THY MAJESTIE only sounds like RHAPSODY on the surface, but all of the playing of every instrument is completely inferior, and the vocals, writing and arrangements in particular, fall hopelessly short of even coming close to better bands in the sympho-metal field...especially RHAPSODY!

I was also particularly annoyed with the fact that they totally mislead you with the number of tracks on "The Lasting Power". This is really an EP cleverly disguised in a bunch of horse manure short instrumentals, narratives and other forms of that useless ilk! In fact, of the 15 tracks listed on the jacket, only 6 are actual songs! What a joke! It's pretty obvious from that alone that these guys would suck. I mean, if you have to hide behind a bunch of rubbish to make it look like your really trying, then what's the point at all!

To polish off all this futility, the album cover is about the worst first grade art contest dung I've ever seen! Who the freakin' heck painted this thing anyway? Yanni's kid!? Just look at the proportions of the combatant knights on the cover! What are they riding anyway, Shetland Ponies? Either that or the riders are both like Herman Munster under there. Even the white rider's sword is completely crooked! Wow! What a pathetically suitable artistic testament to this hunk of Italian junk.

Oh, and by the way, I've also purchased and listened to the supposedly magnificent "Hastings 1066" album THY MAJESTIE put out after this one. That one's better at least, but they're still haplessly obsessed with becoming something they can't be, and that's RHAPSODY. Hell, I'd settle for them just being decent!

Too bad fellas...ugly ducklings only turn into swans in fairytales! Maybe that should be the theme for your next album!
