For years, these Gitzo mountaineer tripods have been in a class of their own. Tripods can never be too steady, too compact, or too light. The only real question is which Gitzo Mountaineer? For me, this one's the perfect compromise. With four sections, it folds up nice and small for travel. With carbon fibre, it's relatively light. It won't replace a cross-braced studio tripod, but then neither will it break your back on assignment, on vacation, or in the studio. Check out their line of Mountaineer monopods while you're at it.
