From Library Journal
In September 1994, an exhibit of Gothic sculpture was opened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium. Steyaert (art history, Univ. of Minnesota), a scholar of medieval art, produced this catalog for the exhibit. In the first chapters, he introduces late Gothic sculpture through the influence of medieval guilds, period, area, and style. The result is a fascinating look at influences of the time, complemented by the addition of helpful maps. The catalog is broken down by region of origin with an informed and interesting discussion of each item. The full-page photos of exhibit pieces are stunning. Beautiful, insightful, and well constructed, this book is recommended for all academic libraries and larger public libraries.
