PFR is one of the best examples of modern Christian Music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Late Great Pfr (Audio CD)
In this compilation, PFR gives listeners a glimpse of the past five years of PFR. And songs from every album are taken (with some slight alterations on Pray for Rain and Do You Want To Know Love). While some songs, like Name and Pour Me Out just plain rock, others, like The Love I Know, Wait For The Sun, and Forever are beautiful in both lyrics and song. Many have shared stories of going through a hard time in relationships, then only to hear The Love I Know. The lyrics can be powerful. The Music is varied from Hard Rock to country (the last song, not listed on CD). And It closes with the retrospect, Fare Thee Well. Of the 17 tracks, 3 are new. 2 are from Pray For Rain (1992), 5 are from Goldie's Last Day (1994), 4 are from Great Lengths (1995), and 2 are from Them (1996).

Anything from PfR has a touch of greatness. They have the uncanny ability to make beautiful, catchy, touching songs, never repeating themselves, never a dull moment. This CD can never attempt to show the complete spectrum of each PfR CD ("Pray for Rain", "Goldie's Last Day", "Great Lengths", and "Them"), but it does give you a good taste of their outstanding musical ability and creativity. The Late Great PfR also includes 3 (actually 4) new tracks. The 3 listed on the album are "Name" (rock), "Forever" (soft & powerful), and "Fare Thee Well" (a touching farewell). Also included is a bonus track, carefully hidden at the end of the album. (you'll know it when you find it, just let the CD play after track 16, or go to Track 17 and rewind a bit) This one was just for fun.If you are a die-hard PfR Fan, this is a must have. If you haven't heard them before and want to get an idea what their music sounds like, at least listen to a demo of this disc. Also consider their other 4 wonderful projects. Joel, Pat, Mark, if you guys are reading this, Thanks for your last concert in Brainerd. It meant a lot! We love you guys! God bless.

A band sorely missed in Christian rock,

PFR will be missed more and more as the years go by. The Late Great PFR is a wonderful survey of their greatest songs, and provides a good look at the incredible range of sound they were able to produce. From Beatle-like pop to edgy, distorted rock, PFR was a guaranteed trip every time you listened to them.

For anyone who likes decent Christian rock, PFR is hard to beat, and this is a great album. I have listened to it to the death and still love it. There are a lot of songs on the album, ranging from ballads to harder rock. I first got into PFR from the song, 'Wonder Why', wich is on this album. Great lyrics too.

The lyrics will change your life,

PFR had an AWESOME ministry and AWESOME CDs! Every single song was a witness to the mercy, grace and love in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. ANYONE can relate to the lyrics .. the songs are VERY catchy and Beatlesque. These guys are by far my favorite artist off all-time hands down. This albums sums up a wonderful compilation of their best stuff. Listen to "It's You Jesus" from their 1994 album "Great Lengths" .. it will change your life!! Thanks to PFR for spreading the joy, hope and love of knowing the savior of all mankind. Praise God!

Talented musicians + clever lyrics = $ well spent,

A rock band with an agenda other than annoying parents. This band is suprisingly good at what they do, creating enjoyable not-so-heavy rock for teens while demonstrating creative musical talent. The lyrics are thoughtful and clearly delivered, and theres a real element of fun to the whole cd. The tunes are catchy and clever and the price is good. What are you waiting for?

I Pray For Rain to come again,

This collection of PFR songs was a great find for my family, who missed PFR's farewell tour by days when we moved from FL to Maine. The song sampling is good and would appeal to anyone who enjoyed bands like "Crowded House" or "Squeeze" only PFR's Christian messages are more edifying and the lyrics and content go far beyond worship music and can apply to many life situations. We continue to miss them but have 5 CD's (THEM is my personal favorite) in our changer, and we hope to get Patrick Andrews EAGER soon. The bonus track shows just what terrific fun-loving guys they are. I hope they remain good friends and reunite someday. Their lasting impact is that they turned my 5 kids onto alternative Christian music, and I can't tell you what a difference it's making for us. Thanks PFR!

PFR was an awesome band! Their lyrics are entertaining, and at the same time, deep. Their wide spectrum of songs includes life, feelings, love, gargling, and a favorite pet's death. No one has ever been able to describe the feelings we humans feel at some points in our lives like PFR has. The best thing is that PFR takes their songs past the emotions and presents solutions and resolutions. This CD takes the best songs from their four preceeding albums. PFR has left a legacy which cannot be forgotten.

Best album I own.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Late Great Pfr (Audio CD)
This is a must-have album for anyone who likes great non-cookie-cutter music like News Boys, Third Day, Jars of Clay, or Audio Adrenaline. PFR has (had) one of the most original, "different" and refreshing sounds I've found in Christian music. And they are consistent in the way they glorify God in their music. This album is worth owning if for no other reason than to get the track "Forever" -- which IMHO is one of PFR's greatest songs ever. I've listened to this album probably 50 times, although I don't listen to the 16th track "Fare Thee Well" anymore. I was extremely saddened to hear that PFR was going their separate ways (as "Fare Thee Well" explains lyrically). I love PFR's music, but found out about them later than I'd have liked. I bought a copy of "Them" a couple years back, then bought "Late Great PFR". But their other albums quickly disappeared as soon as they announced the group's retirement. I'd like to have owned their prior albums, but I've got the next best thing with this incredible anthology.

I already owned this, and bought this one for a 13yo friend who is a burgeoning musician who appreciates good, older music. PFR's style is reminiscent of the Beatles, and this kid loves Paul McCartney, so I knew he would love them. I was right, he'd never heard of PFR and was thrilled to discover an "old" band with great style and message. My husband and I play this album frequently. It's great ambient music or full-on sing-along.
