As a solo artist, Andy has produced a steady stream of quality releases for OM Records, Naked Music, UK-based deep house imprint Inspirit Music and for Deep Dishs renowned Yoshitoshi Recordings sub-label Shinichi. Andy has also become an in-demand remixer supplying his trademark signature to releases from artists like Miguel Migs, Narcotic Thrust and Hani as well as releasing collaborative singles with the likes of Kaskade and Jay-J.
Throughout his career his works have appeared on numerous compilations such as Mark Farina's widely popular Mushroom Jazz series (OM), Deep Dishs massive Global Underground: Toronto, as well as on collections from Hed Kandi, Renaissance and Naked Music. Hes also dj-mixed two volumes of Inspirit Music's Insoul Sessions (UK) and compiled a Sounds of Om collection.
Over the past three years, Andy has focused on touring as a DJ, affording him an opportunity to share his love of music with fans around the world, playing records in every major city on every continent. In 2004, he and longtime colleague Bob Haynes (of Inspirit Music) launched their own Uno Recordings imprint, a joint label dedicated to edgy, experimental music laced with soulful songwriting, strong vocal performances and musicality. With a growing roster that includes Caldwell, Mei-Lwun, Behrouz, Yoshimoto and Soulstice, the fledgling imprint has already made its mark on the electronic and dance music industry. On Late Night with Andy Caldwell, he digs deep into his crates to construct a luxuriant midnight oasis rich with mood-enhancing grooves and radiant textures. This dynamic tour-de-force is an eclectic yet sensuous late night mix of deep house and organic jazz-inflected grooves with a gritty electro edge. With an arsenal of essential tunes that embody San Franciscos warm, soul-stirring tones, Chicagos pulsating jazzy-house bounce, Detroits gritty and futuristic techno-funk, West Londons rudeboy swagger, and Germanys minimal tech-house washes, this collection is a sparkling reminder of just how brilliant house music can be.

GREAT OVERALL LATE-NIGHT DANCE VIBE,
By
This review is from: Late Night With Andy Caldwell (Dig) (Audio CD)
This particular type of dance mix CD shouldn't necessarily be judged by individual tracks alone but rather by the atmosphere it creates as a whole - and Andy Caldwell succeeds quite well with this mix. Bear in mind that the theme here is "late night", so the mood is slightly more subdued and sets things up nicely for the chillout "after party" for two. Besides, if it's a "hits" compilation you're looking for, perhaps you should check out the Dance Mix USA CDs?

Tasteful, elegant & undeniably booty-shaking,

A splendid new mix from Mr. Caldwell, a San Francisco-based DJ/producer whose own tracks have been showing up on the better house compilations for years. It's called "Late Night" but don't let that fool you - this is music you can put on with your morning coffee, too, or anytime you need to get your head straight. That's "straight" meaning "all sorted out", of course. This IS deep house after all.
Caldwell starts things off with the summery "Brand New Day," a gorgeous, soulful vocal track that would be right at home on any Naked Music release. The laid-back acoustic guitars and driving synth bass on that track set the tone for the next few tracks, each of which builds in complexity until climaxing with Mylo's "Otto's Journey," a blast of pure optimism that could put a smile of Dick Cheney's face (ew...rough image...sorry). Track six (Caldwell's own "The Waiting Game") provides a sexy bridge to what, for me, is the best track on the disc: Scape's "Be My Friend", a tremendous vocal cut that reminds me of some of the Lazy Dog discs from years back (RIP Lazy Dog...). The second half of the disc keeps the quality high, closing things out with a smooth Julius Papp remix of Deborah Bond's "This is Me", which may as well have been custom-made for this project - it's like that last glass of champagne you probably shouldn't have, but can't resist. I am continually impressed by how rich a genre deep house really is, when it's being mined by a pro like Caldwell. On his decks, soul and electronics merge into a river of groove that never fails to soothe. This new mix is exactly where deep house is right now. If you're into it, pick it up - you will be playing it for months, if not years to come. Certainly the hair salons will be. Five stars.

Late Night With Andy Caldwell,

Although I'm a bit of a newbie to the world of house and electronica, I am not a stranger to music that makes not only the booty shake and the toes tap, but also fills the imagination with awe and color, and this album does just that. This compilation has also introduced me to the brillance of Mylo (if you haven't yet heard his album, "Destroy Rock & Roll", then quit reading this and go check it out! Pay EXTRA special attention to "In My Arms", "Drop The Pressure", "Rikki", "Otto's Journey" and "Zenophile" not to mention "Doctor Pressure" which won the Ministry Of Sound award for song of the year!)
You've read the genre descriptions from others, so I can't add much more, but it's clear that Caldwell puts a lot of emphasis on mixing songs, both vocal and instrumental, with complex beats and amazing keyboards. This truly is one of those rare treasures that you can press play, and not have the urge to skip track after track after track. Please, order your copy through Amazon or visit your favorite local music store and enjoy this amazing compilation today!
