Editorial Reviews

Review

"Late Night Boyfriends is quite possibly one of the best new gay vampire anthologies. The stories are short, focused, fresh, with hot young fang welding vampires who win out in the end."
--Sebastien Terrean, gaymalevampire.com

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, not an excellent one., April 23, 2010

This review is from: Late Night Boyfriends: Tales of the gay vampire (Paperback)
Good stories & good writers, yet a tad less than the authors of Masters of Midnight & Midnight Thirsts (specially Michael Thomas Ford). Do not expect new or profound insights into gay sexuality and societal mores, or deep research into the folklore of the undead. Do expect to be pleasantly entertained. A very good read during any boring night. Sets you on a good gay Halloween mood. I hope they have more books like this coming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best gay vampire anthology, December 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Late Night Boyfriends: Tales of the gay vampire (Paperback)
Late Night Boyfriends has to be one of the best gay vampire anthologies to date. There are 13 tales which each weave a delightful, original and imaginative story. The individual writer's are obviously young and fresh, a few of the stories were rougher but this was easily outweighed by imaginative and thoughtful tales. Each tale ended in a satisfactory way which I'd almost say were happy endings depending on if you cheer for the vampire. Mortals and vampires fall in love with one another and accept their vampire selves or their partner's new vampiric natures. There are vampire boyfriends, lovers and friends, and the odd one night stand that leaves a fresh new immortal in its' wake.

The product description for the book is correct and I was not disappointed by the content, these stories do reflect the vampire in a new light. Late Night Boyfriends beautiful evolves the gay vampire ethos into modern times. These are positive, post-millennium tales where the good vampires succeed and the evil is manifested as a human characteristic rather than using the easy to blame demon as a scapegoat. While each tale creates a new "universe" or mythological back story, it is easy to suspend one's beliefs and become engrossed in these fast-paced and exciting tales.

I can safely say I have read all the gay vampire anthologies published in the last 20 years (Brothers of the Night: Gay Vampire Stories, Blood Lust: Erotic Vampire Tales, Lovers Who Stay With You, Masters Of Midnight, Midnight Hunger, Midnight Thirsts: Erotic Tales: Erotic Tales of the Vampire, and Sons of Darkness: Tales of Men, Blood and Immortality), and my top pick is now Late Night Boyfriends. It is not the most erotic collection of the pack, however it had the most number or highest percentage of stories I thoroughly enjoyed. I devoured the book and re-read several of the stories. At it's core, all 13 tales are about vampires, the characters varying slightly, but not deviating from the recognizable vampire template. The stories are not political, and they don't take the reader on a tangent applying the vampire metaphor to other creatures. These vampires were men and they have fangs. And for this, the stories were quite simply hot.
