The Late Night Guide to C++ Nigel Chapman Did you ever stay up late into the night, working on a computer program? Not because you had to but because there was something fascinating about making that program work that was just.worth staying up for? If this sounds familiar then this book is aimed at you. In a good-humoured style, The Late Night Guide introduces C++ to the experienced programmer. It assumes no prior knowledge of the language and unlike the endless dry reference manuals has one mission: to restore the fun and excitement to jaded programmers. Completely up-to-date, it conforms to the latest published C++ standards. Starting with the simplest features of the language, The Late Night Guide to C++ develops and introduces key aspects of C++, including: object-oriented Programming, abstraction, inheritance, templates and the standard template library, exceptions, classes, pointers, arrays and more. Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

For that legion of programmers dragging their feet into the world of C++, here is a tutorial with just the right attitude. A non- threatening approach for C++ neophytes that weren't born yesterday, it explores the concepts and constructs of the object-oriented language in the context of languages this crowd is already familiar with and loath to abandon--languages like Pascal, Fortran, Prolog, and C. Along the way, readers discover both the good and the bad aspects of C++.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good theory, January 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Late Night Guide to C++ (Paperback)
This book was not meant to compete with the Teach Yourself Foo in 21 Days For Dummies In A Nutshell books. It does a great job, however, of helping an experienced programmer learn C++. It also does a good job discussing when and why you might want to use certain more esoteric features of the language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for experienced, October 24, 2000

It is jump start but with a lot of theory and technical stuff. It is definitely not like teach yourself in 21 days. I find this book helpful but I couldn't say that's right for others. I like this book a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is the pits, April 8, 1997

This review is from: The Late Night Guide to C++ (Paperback)
As a proffessional windows developer, I am keen to get intoc++. Unfortunately this book is not the one to use to get youkickstarted into the world of c++ (contrary to the blurb on the back cover) . I own MS VC ++ and tried to use it to duplicate some of the examples in the book. I couldn't get past page 34 because the code snippets would simply not compile. In short, I would look elsewhere if you are looking to fast track your way to VC++.
