5.0 out of 5 stars Club Trini Is Back - Put Your Booze In The Blender
Club Trini. Who are they? What do they sound like? I was you at one time. I asked the same questions. I ask you this: If you have ever sat on a sunny beach, with SPF 15 in one hand and a cool Corona (tm) with a lime in the other, then you have probably heard of Club Trini -- at least _wished_ you had been listening to it at that moment. Picture this: cool calypso...

3.0 out of 5 stars Club Trini review
Late Night Live by Club Trini is a mostly instrumental album of calypso music. It was recorded live a the Margaritaville Cafe in New Orleans. If you are really into calypso music, you'll love this album. If calypso is not for you, you better pass. In my opinion, the album is completely worth buying just for the wonderful cover of "No Woman, No Cry" by Jimmy Buffett...

Picture this: cool calypso blended with a bit of parrothead madness mixed with a dash of salt and poured evenly across the entire CD. Still don't get it? Well, in the catchy, uptempo "Tripp," you are seemingly taken on a different kind of 'trip' through the lower lattitudes. While on "Club Trini (back in town)" you are taken on a mystical journey through across the white sand beaches, through the palm trees, and up into the base of the volcano. Club Trini's music is mostly instrumental -- but not the corny "stuck in the elevator" kind of instrumental - we're talking steel drums and congos and all kinds of other tropical-sounding instruments that one could only describe while in the Islands. Keep in mind that the lead crew of Club Trini -- Michael Utley and Robert Greenridge -- have been playing the laid back, key west calypso-style music for longer than most of us parrotheads can remember as members of the Coral Reefers in Jimmy Buffett's yearly traveling party. Keep in mind that Buffett performs four songs on this masterpiece AND this was recorded LIVE at Margaritaville Cafe. Plain and simple: If you plan on being anywhere where the sun is shining, buy this CD. You will not be disappointed. In an otherwise stressfull world, a cerveza and a dash of Club Trini is all you need. Fins Up... Parrothead Brian "We are the people our parents warned us about..."

5.0 out of 5 stars NICE, March 19, 2002

This CD is a smile waiting to happen. As soon as a I popped it in the cd player I was dancing around my apartment, shaking my hips to the caribbean beat, completely forgetting the bad mood I was in 10 minutes before. The beats and guitar work are great, Jimmy Buffett's vocals on some of the tracks are balm to the parrothead soul (esp his take on No Woman No Cry) and I have long been a huge fan of Nadirah Shakoor, since I heard her solo while Jimmy took a break at his Cincinnati concert one year. The live ambience only adds, with the energy and noise of the crowd as much a part of the listening experience as you own tropical island fantasies. Buy it for the rhythms, buy it 'cause it's Jimmy, buy it 'cause Nadirah is on it....just do yourself a favor and buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Club Trini is BACK in town, June 17, 2000
This review is from: Late Night Live (Audio CD)
To all you fellow Parrot Heads out there, few words can express what a masterpiece this albumn is. With the mixture of steel drums, drums and live atmosphere at Margaritaville Cafe New Orleans it comes across in magnificant form. Just pop it in your player sit back close your eyes and you are transported to your favorite beach (Cayman islands for me! ). Don't miss this album, a MUST on your list and your Buffett collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it for the Marley, June 10, 2000

For Buffett's cover of Marley's "No Woman, No Cry",this CD is worth the [money]. Other than that, it's a perfect pre-concert and summertime fix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coral Reefers at their best, December 16, 2000

If you're only into the core of the Parrothead Cannon, then this CD isn't for you. No Son of a Son or Changes here. The emphasis is on the talent and brilliance of the Coral Reefers. If you lay in bed at night thinking about going back to the island, or dream about going down to the Banana Republics and listening to the local bands, consider yourself a fit for this Album. Nadirah Shakoor fans will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have CD for any Parrot Head, September 21, 2000

I am a 20 year Buffett fan. I've had this CD for 2 weeks and have'nt stopped listening to it for the last two weeks. Bubba's singing of "No woman, No cry" is absolutely incredible. I keep punching track 13 over and over again. His never released "Come on in" is in typical Buffett fashion, have to listen to it 10 times before you say, "Wow, he did it again." You get to hear how truly talented Robert is on the steel drums. Trini's rendition of "African Friend" is super. People talk about taking one CD with them on a deserted island, this one is it. Steel drums and Bubba, what else is there.?

I love to listen to JB and anytime he is spreading island rhythms via a Reefer Band or a Club Trini, it has to be good. It's an OK mix, not great, but definitely four stars. Neat to play on those evenings as you sit among the stars and just want a license to chill ...

I heard one of the songs on this CD on Radio Margaritaville and knew I had to get it; so I did. Most of the stuff is ok to pretty good. It's probably just the Coral REefers having fun in New Orleans Margaritaville. Jimmy makes an appearnace on an unremarkable song. But the song I bought for is worth the price of the rest of the album.
