I'm Impressed (And A Little Embarrassed!),
This review is from: Late Night Special (Dig) (Audio CD)
I love this CD!
I tried hard not to like Pretty Ricky when Bluestars came out, because my then 14 year-old stepdaughter adored them. I overheard some of the songs she listened to and, though I would have preferred she NOT listen to their raunchy lyrics, I had to admit that they are good at what they do and display a reasonable amount of talent. I got Late Night Special yesterday and listened to every song. This CD is hot from beginning to end! Having successfully passed the sophomore album hurdle, Pretty Ricky has demonstrated that they possess true staying power.

Depending on what you wanted to hear depends on which content you bought. If you brought the Explict verison of course you are going to hear something that deals with sex on every song. Duh. These guys are 21 what else would they be sing about. If you wanted to hear something more soothing and less about sex buy the clean version. As Baby blue said " the clean is for songs about love and being in love, the expicit is for making love"

If "0" was an option, that's what I would've given this,

Awful, awful, awful lyrics....why does it have to be all about SEX. Can we sing about something else....why do lyrics today have to be so raunchy, just straight up nasty! Are they that crazed for SEX. Teens today need to know that other things exist other than sex, violence, and drugs...there's nothing "special" about this at all.

Not Bad!,
This review is from: Late Night Special (Dig) (Audio CD)
The sophomore "Late Night Special" has hot beats and hot lyrics. Mixed with slow grooves, nice vocals, and sexy raps. This album compared to Bluestars is a bit more on the adult level than the last. They're really showing a lot of improvement in the music industry that should get more praise. I would recommend it to all fans and even new listeners.

Drop whatever you're doing, jump in your car, and buy this album immediately. The longer you delay doing this, the longer your life will be meaningless and empty. This album is haunting, uplifting, magical, and as close to perfection as anything could ever be. The new masterpiece by Pretty Ricky is so much more than "candy for the ears" and is sure to go down in history as one the most celebrated musical marvels of our time .
If I may be so bold, I predict that the release of this album will undoubtedly restore social tranquility in the Mideast and other war torn nations, and decimate the current state of arrested economic growth, not just within the U.S., but for all nations. After listening to " Late Night Special" the listener will without question be left reeling in a blissful state of bewilderment for hours. This album also raises two very crucial questions. 1) Was the album produced/mixed by a higher deity? 2) Are the fellas of pretty Rick mere mortals? Well, Yes and No is all you need to know. Further exploration into this topic is far beyond the grasp of human comprehension. Songs such as "Up and Down" can only be described as emotionally super-charged power love ballads, while "So confused" beautifully orchestrates sounds that will leave the listener weeping for hours. "Late Night Special" is definitely the groups magnum opus and is unmatched by other so called musical masterpieces from the past. This is hands down the most unrivaled and exquisite musical creation on the face of the earth.

Oh, no; not these guys again...,

I'll admit it; I never was much of a Pretty Ricky fan, especially after listening to Bluestars. I mean, I like sex as much as the next guy, but that seemed to be all these guys ever talked about -- and it didn't help that they have very, VERY below-average rapping skills (and Pleasure's singing is pretty okay). And this trend continues on Late Night Special.
Now, I won't say that nobody likes Pretty Ricky; after all, this album DID debut at #1 on the Billboard 200. But I have to say that this is another one of those cases where I looked at the other reviews and now I'm asking, "Did we all listen to the same album?" And aside from all the usual sexual talk, the guys still rely on dated rhymes, like "let me do you after school like some homework" ("Leave It All Up to You"), "you got me feenin' like Jodeci" ("Love Like Honey"), and, once again, "if I'm lyin', I'm flyin'" (the title track). As was the case with the first album, the guys aren't very impressive when they DON'T talk about sex either, mainly because considering the way they normally rap (lyrics AND style), it's kind of hard to then take them seriously (especially Slick). This is evident on "Stay" (but Pleasure's singing is pretty God-awful on that song too) and the necessary song about clubbing, "Push It Baby". And "So Confused" is aptly titled because the chorus is about being in love with a girl who's taken, but then the verses contain their usual dirty talk. This album also contains a pretty statutory song, the aforementioned "Leave It All Up to You". But in the long run, maybe that isn't HORRIBLE because teenage girls are probably the only people that'll pick up this album. Like I said before, I have nothing against sex, but if that's all you talk about AND you're wack, then it's really a turnoff. I'm going to have to pass on this late night special and see what else is on the menu. Anthony Rupert

Pretty Ricky Is Something Special!,

So I was kind of skeptical about this cd. But I gave it a try anyway. And I am pretty glad that I did. The cd is great! All the songs are good and the boys blend the vocals and rapping perfectly. The rap lyrics, could have been stepped up a bit though. The beats are well produced too. Overall, I say Pretty Ricky did their thing on this album. They don't even begin to compare to Jodeci, but they are worth checking out.

Pretty Ricky was pretty much inspired by Jodeci and Usher to record this hot album. This album is very sensual and sexual at the same time. I love this album. This album seems destine to surpass their previous success. The growth and maturity of their lyrics, production, and vocals, coupled with their innate ability to connect with virtually any market that shows the diversity and expansion of these superstars. Forget everything else on the menu-This group is your one and only LATE NIGHT SPECIAL.

WHEN I BROUGHT PRETTY RICKY OF COURSE IT WAS FOR THE JOINT "HOTLINE", BUT AS I LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE ALBUM IT'S REALLY NICE. THEY HAVE LOTS OF SLOW INTIMATE MUSIC ON THERE WHICH IS COOL FOR THE LOVERS. THEIR SOUND HAS A NICE BLEND TO IT THIS ALBUM TO ME IS A GOOD LISTEN TOO.

I think that Pretty Ricky has done a better job on this album as far as discussing more versaltile subjects besides sex although its pretty much the underlying meaning of the album. Tracks such as "so confused" talk about being in love with someone who is taken. "Make it like it was" talks about the age old subject of never truly getting over your first love. The album opener "Late Night Special" is one of my personal favorites. It immedaitely sets the tone for the album and lets you know exactly who you are listening to. I could do without the song "personal trainer". I prefer the fast paced up beat "go getta" on the edited version. This is one of those things you either love or hate. If the sexual lyrics arent your thing you'll probably hate the album but if you like that kind of thing or can get past them you'll find yourself enjoying the album. I know I did. Although I did find the edited version a little more easy on the ears as far as them toning down their sexual lyrics but thats just my opinion
