5.0 out of 5 stars More Great Performances from Georg Tintner, June 23, 2003
By Darin Tysdal (Bloomington, MN 55420) - See all my reviews

This CD is a gem, a jewel! After buying all of Tintner's Bruckner cycle, I happened on this disc with Tintner's Symphony Nova Scotia which he conducted from 1987 until his death. These performances are first rate! Startling with a sparkling rendition of Reznicek's Donna Diana Overture, we are treated to some more less familiar fare. I especially enjoyed the Symphony in C by Hans Pfitzner. Apparently this is one of two symphonies that Pfitzner wrote. It is a very sunny, listener-friendly work that reminds one of a 20th century Schubert. The other works are most certainly worth getting to know, especially the Oskar Morawetz Divertimento for strings. If you are a collector of musical esoterica, like I am, snatch this one up right away before you can't find it anymore! More, please!
