Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Director Schorr's triumphant first feature, a universal story of life under war's shadow, opened the 1987 Jerusalem Film Festival to unanimous acclaim. Set in 1970 during the War of Attrition at the Suez Canal, Late Summer Blues chronicles events in the lives of seven Israeli students during the summer following high-school graduation--a summer clouded by their impending induction into the army.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully done, sensitive and potent movie, March 1, 1999
By shaiel@erols.com (Washington D.C.) - See all my reviews
I have used this video to teach teenagers about the impact of imminent war on a society. It is very well done, a bit sentimental at times but worth it. I recommend this movie whole-heartedly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coming-of-age movie, February 28, 1999
By julie1013@tradenet.net (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
This movie, like "Stand By Me" examines coming of age in a deep manner. In this case, rather than starring 12-year-olds, it stars post-high school kids going to the Israeli army. It asks a lot of questions and it makes a lot of good points. At the end, Margo says something like "We were so stupid back then" and that I thought was a "read between the line" kind of line. To enjoy this movie, you don't have to know anything about Israel (besides the draft) because the movie examines a universal theme.
