5.0 out of 5 stars Clever and catchy..., February 9, 2009

This review is from: Late for School (MP3 Download)
Steve Martin is not a singer. But Steve Martin is a performer. Late for School is a clever bluegrass spot that's fun and fresh. And Martin performs it all so very well. The lyrics aren't going to inspire nations to put down arms, but my kids absolutely love the song and have listened to it over and over, hoping to master not just the words themselves, but the tempo of their delivery, too. Martin's performance of the song on SNL in Feb. 2009 was something different for the show, but it worked. Here Martin tells a story within a song. It's whimsy and nutty...and that's what makes it fun. The music is full and rich and Martin seems to enjoy sharing the banjo throughout. This is not some vanity project. It's a nice piece of work.
