Very good overview of LCA,

This review is from: Latent Class and Latent Transition Analysis: With Applications in the Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences (Wiley Series in Probability and Statistics) (Hardcover)
I've gotten about halfway through this book (finished reviewing the Fundamentals and the chapter on LCA with Covariates, haven't yet gotten to multiple-group LCA or LCM for longitudinal data). So far, I am very pleased.
The authors provide very clear, conceptual explanations of LCA that are supplemented with equations and examples. There is a book website that provides sample syntax using Proc LCA and Proc LTA (free, downloadable software modules for use with SAS 9.1 and higher) as well as references for additional reading. One caveat is that this text is most appropriate for introducing beginners to fundamental LCA and LTA concepts. As the authors note in Chapter 1, the book is NOT intended to provide a comprehensive review of the literature on latent class models. Therefore, certain types of analyses (e.g. latent profile analysis, multilevel LCA, LCA involving complex survey data) are beyond the scope of the text. The authors do provide references that interested readers can use to follow up on these topics, however. Recommended. |
