Book Description

Are you a late-blooming adult? Congratulations, you're in remarkable company!

Julia Child savored her first French meal at age 36. It changed her life and ours—there’d be no Food Network without her! Edgar Rice Burroughs sold his stories Tarzan and John Carter of Mars at 37. The latter will be a major movie next year, a century later. Bertha Benz learned how to drive at 39. She made the world’s first road trip. Susan Boyle electrified the world with her singing voice at age 48. English character actress Liz Smith got her first break at 49. She recently co-starred with Johnny Depp.

Bram Stoker wrote Dracula at age 50. There’s a granny who took up hip-hop dancing at age 64, one who became a famous nightclub DJ at 68, and one who her ran her first marathon at age 86. She’s still running.

These are some of the fascinating people you’ll meet in this compilation from the popular LaterBloomer.com blog. In the garden of life, a “late-blooming” flower blossoms right on time!

I just returned to college this past year at age 39, and I simply relished this book. I am usually one of the 4-5 oldest students in the classes at my community college. At this time, I am in between the winter and spring break at school and I desperately needed some inspiration and I truly found it in this book. I plan on telling others about it on Facebook and Pinterest too. The research was good. I have always enjoyed biographies, and this book is a scrapbook of mini biographies. There was something to be learned and applied from each person's life that she discussed. I used to think that the world had passed me by, but not anymore. I am just getting started! I know I will read this again. I read it so fast. I just could not put it down.

I would recommend this book to men or women, especially those who are stuck in a rut, maybe they lost their job and are having a tough time marketing themselves for a new job, and for especially for empty nesters. Happy reading!

challenging and inspiring December 27, 2011

I had never read Debra Eve's blog, but I will now be checking it out regularly because this book was really enlightening. It offers inspiring motivation for those of us who feel like we've never quite gotten it right. Debra Eve rolls out one story after the next of late bloomers -- some already in old age -- who've achieved goals, and in some cases major recognition later in life. She offers a 'lesson' motto after each one. My favorite is "Ignore your naysayers and dance to your own tune." In examining the various reasons some people don't hit their stride until they're past midlife, she includes historical figures like Ben Franklin, Charles Perrault and scientist Mary Somerville in addition to modern examples like Susan Boyle.
Looks likes this will be the first in a series, and it is one series I will definitely have on my TBR list.

I'm so glad that I found this book because I'm going through a 'what am I doing with my life' moment right now - days away from turning 40. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who ever has doubted what they want to do when they 'grow up' or if they've known all along but have had things standing in the way of realizing those goals.
