Crazy P single handedly got me into disco. I give much thanks to them, as I'm far to young to have experienced it myself, being born just as it was fading away in the early eighties. In my opinion, they are the champions of the new disco movement. They don't get carried away in 'herbal' influenced space disco jam-sessions that go on forever (like some of their contemporaries do in the far north.) It's just good, clean, highly polished funky grooves they bring to the table. I recently saw them funk a hotel roof in South Beach to the ground; it was a shining moment in my life. That said, I believe they had too broad of a scope for this mix. Maintaining a groove on this album did not seem to be their primary goal. It gets noodley, going from jazz to down tempo to full-on disco. All of these genres are good, but the essence of what I need is to maintain a proper groove. This mix is just too broken up for me to get into; my moods just don't flip like they do in this mix. All of the songs are fantastic (especially the Hot Toddy remix and their own remix at the finale); they're just too up and down for me. I guess I was just wishing for something that would make me dance my arse off for 80 minutes and help me relive that sunny day in Miami. Too bad this album wasn't split into two parts; one uptempo and one downtempo. That would have been five stars for me.
