Plays lie flat on the written page. So do these three. But, I've read Gurney's novel, The Snow Ball (one of the three plays contained in the book cited here) and it is a wonderful description of Buffalo, NY in the 1950s-1960s, when WASPS still ran the city. As a native I can attest to the play's accuracy, at least an imagined, idealized version of the city and the era.
