Bauxite is the main raw material for the production of metallic aluminium. The majority of the world bauxite resources belongs to the lateritic bauxite deposits. This book provides the first comprehensive geologic-genetic and economic evaluation of these deposits on a world-wide scale.

The authors of this book spent most of their life in bauxite exploration and in scientific bauxite research. This volume presents both their scientific and practical experiences, complete with all available information on the deposits.

The understanding of the text is facilitated by a glossary, explaining the special terms used in the book.

The book contains a great number of photographs, both coloured and black and white, tables and maps. An extensive bibliography, list of localities, index of names and subjects are included.

Editorial Reviews

Review

J. Konta
... professors offering courses in weathering crust processes and deposits will find this text and figures very helpful. Numerical data can be used for computerized statistics. Each geological library should provide this book to its readers.
Chemical Geology
Two of the World's foremost authorities have combined to produce the most comprehensive text on lateritic bauxites yet available and one that will undoubtedly appeal to academics as well as those with more applied interests...strongly recommended to all who have an interest in bauxites.
Ore Geology Reviews
Overall, the book is clearly written, well organized and nicely illustrated,. Besides making available the large amount of review, summary and systematic information, the authors have achieved their aim of uniting the scientific and practical aspects of lateritic bauxites. Few could hope to see and study as many lateritic bauxite deposits of the world as the two authors. The book is a most valuable treatise, representing a substantial part of the two authors' life-time experience. It is likely to be the definitive volume on lateritic bauxites for many years. The book should be used by applied geologists working with lateritic bauxites and by researchers including graduate students, as convenient source material and as a key to further references on the topic and on deposits studied.
