Editorial Reviews

Review

“Foster’s illuminating and sensitive analysis of Latin American documentary films is clearly based on extensive reading and a solid critical base. It stages the workings of a sharp, critical mind, thoroughly familiar with the critical debates on Latin American film and culture.”—Santiago Juan-Navarro, co-editor of Nuevas aproximaciones al cine hispánico: Migraciones temporales, textuales y étnicas en el bicentenario de las independencias iberoamericanas (1810–2010)

“Foster’s journey through the landscapes and subjects of Latin-American documentary film is extremely engaging and thought-provoking.”—Bulletin of Spanish Studies

After reading about his fascinating life, I rushed to my computer to congratulate the author. I was saddened to read that he had died in 2010. His story, was very impressive but not unique. There are quite a few Mexican-Americans, children of Mexican born parents who have overcome prejudice and gone on to have successful careers. What I love about Ramon Eduardo Ruiz Urueta is that he chose the intellectual path and traversed both Mexico and the U.S. in the pursuit of his research trying to get to the reason behind what makes each of us who we are. I am with you Ramon, we have to be proud of who we are and where we came from. Without that, we are nothing!
