If "milk does a body good" then reading this book does the mind better. The problem of race in America, if it can be termed and accepted as a problem, is rarely confronted, and the issue of Latin racism is even more rarely discussed. But it is here, the author leads you into a comprehensive and myriad study that is both enlightening and disheartening. The sheer scope of his underlying thesis transcends the confines of heterogeneous continents and societies and links both Africa and the Americas. The author has committed a lifetime dissertation of research and analysis defining the supposition of race across Latin and African ethnicities. The paradigm of racial identity is demystified, stripped, unclothed, and the pure aesthetic of color, and its perceived privilege, through the study of ethno-social literature, and the symbiotic relationship of social stratification, its form and function of inequality are presented.

Despite (and because of) a lifelong friendship with someone of a markedly different "phenotype" (I had to lookup the meaning of that word), I was unfamiliar with the topic, but the clear, precise presentation of the concept in the book made the subject matter educationally and emotionally revealing and provided me with an incentive to read further.
Excellent writing!

A thorough, well researched treatment of a little understood subject, presented in a well written scholarly manner. This is the "must-have" volume for a complete, in-depth understanding of the Afro Latino world. The author's presentation brings to light a hidden, little discussed area of the concept of "diversity" in the Hispanic-Latino image. The relationship between the "probability" of an African connection and the "reality" of the African in the "diaspora" is conclusively resolved. An excellent study!!!!!!!
