Durable, laminated, and very useful!, December 17, 2001
This review is from: Latin Grammar (Grammar Card Guides) (Pamphlet)
This is an extremely durable and laminated 8 1/2 X 11 card that contains nearly any grammar rule that you might need to know. It is pre-punched so that you can carry it around in a three ring binder with you. I have had my Latin Grammar Card for many years and it's still in great shape! Yes, you can certainly find any of these grammar rules on the Internet for free, but can you condense them all down so that they fit on a 2 sided card? It won't replace a good Latin grammar book, but it is definitely easier to carry and will certainly help you tell your declensions from your conjugations!

a great quick reference, but..., January 8, 2007
This review is from: Latin Grammar (Grammar Card Guides) (Pamphlet)
I bought the card because I need a [very] quick reference for the rudiments of Latin grammar, and didn't want to carry a larger book. What you get is a single two-sided sheet of laminated cardboard, about Letter Size (8.5x11 in^2) with holes on one side to place in a ring binder. The card is very useful and nice, and while, as a reviewer already pointed out, the information is available for free over the internet, the whole point of this card is in its extreme portability, compatness, lightness, and most importantly -- ease of lookup and use.
Now for the bad news: The card arrived with a nasty sticker glued onto its lower right corner. The sticker had some information about the "book" including a barcode, etc. The problem is that the card is so packed with information that the sticker covered it. The sticker is almost impossible to scratch off! I hesitate to try any solvent, like alcohol or acetone; I'm sure they'll do a good job of erasing the card as well. If you buy this card, I suggest you also by a soft white eraser ("rubber", as it's known in British), and spend a good 15 minutes rubbing off the sticker. You'll need to nudge it a bit with a fingernail or a knife, and then rub the eraser over it repeatedly until some of the sticker comes off. Then scratch it some more with a knife, and go over it again with an eraser, and so on. Be patient, and prepare to spend most of the eraser on the task -- I've never seen stickers like that sold to civilians... This sticker is probably certified MIL spec or something. It would have been so much better to have used a sticker with weaker glue, or otherwise glue it to the wider edge and let it extend beyond the card.

Amo, amas, amat, amazing, May 13, 2010
This review is from: Latin Grammar (Grammar Card Guides) (Pamphlet)
This is a great ready-reference all on one card. To be honest, I photocopied the card on front and back (which also has information) and pinned both up to the bulletin board above my desk so that I could quickly glance and see the information as I work on translations of Vergil and Augustine. Here you will find the basic endings for the nouns and adjectives of the major declensions, the primary structures for verbs of the major conjugations, discussion of active and passive, indicative and subjunctive, and a bit on irregular verbs.
This is no substitute for study, and no substitute for a proper grammar. In regular reading of Latin, one encounters exceptions to almost every rule as a matter of course, and those are far too numerous to fit on a card such as this. This brings me to the one drawback of this card -- the print is very small, and I find that it can be a bit difficult to read on its own. The above-mentioned photocopy was also an enlargement to 11x17, which makes the reading much easier. However, to have such a ready reference available for most (if not all) one needs to learn Latin while standing on one foot is a very good thing, despite the minor drawback.
