Gerardo Frisina's one of the primary artists with Idizione-Ishtar and Schema. He's collaborated with and worked with loads of the other artists and musicians on that label as well as tremendous musicians on others, most striking to me is Frank Hernandez and Deja-Vu. Other members of the Schema side though are Nicola Conte, The Dining Rooms, S-Tone Inc., Rosalia De Souza, Gianluca Patrella, Five Corners Quintet and Soulstance. Speaking of Soulstance, the majority of the trakcs on this cd were written by Frisina and Vincenzo Lo Greco while this was recorded in Lo Greco Studios in Milan.

I've always been a fan of Frisina's experimentation and sounds, from Ad Lib on up. This album is a great progression from "Hi-Note" in that it feels even more polished and spirited - though that was the theme of the album with African influences and some Brazilian and Italian bossa mixed in! This is all about the beats. The cd starts with "The God's of Yoruba", which was actually what the album was going to be called in the preliminary phases. Consistent beat, good horns - albeit a bit simple in structure but a good testament to the old Horace Silver piece. "Bite the Nite" kicks with great keys and vibraphones and "Cortante" has the Cuban key vibe and beats - a sound that Frisina's really taken too and gotten even deeper with from working with Hernandez and other artists. With "Descarga", it was bound to happen! Other tracks I enjoyed were "Cohete", which had a intricate beats and tribal sounds wiht flute and chant - reminds me somewhat of Buscemi's "Viaje Feliz". "The 7th Day" also grabbed my attention but I think my favorite track was "Batucafro"! Great bossa and Batucada, sweet voice, quick tempo and amazing guitar and flute play that'll pull you in.

I recommend this one.

Was in a shop and this lively Latin music was coming through the speakers. Asked behind the counter to find the artist and CD name, the girl told me I was the third person to ask about the albums title. Getting and playing it at home, it lost none of its vitality or energy. To a casual Latin listener, this is definitely a very good starter. Now off to see what others in Frisina Gerado's catalogue are like. Enjoy.

This album DEFINITELY has a "Latin kick" to it. I normally don't listen to Latin American traditional music (except for some tango out of Argentina and Brazilian bossa nova), but I can see why I would like this CD -- it has a nice dubby feel to it. Not much in the way of vocals (which is what I actually prefer) and the music gets loop-y making me want to put it on repeat again and again. The CD is strong throughout but if I had to choose a few tracks for a compilation to include elsewhere I would choose tracks 2,4,5,6,8,9 and perhaps 10.

This is my first complete Frisina CD and I will be sure to check out his other work which I am only familiar with so far from his collaborations with other artists such as Rosalia De Souza and Nicola Conte

I love this album. Frisina's music is a beautiful reinterpretation and blending of classic jazz and samba. The songs are sophisticated, fun and filled with attitude. The melodies stay with you. My favorites on the album included the gods of yoruba, jazzy ally, gosto de que e bom and batucafro.
