The BEST LULLABY ALBUM en español!,
By S. Alvarez "Raising a bilingual child" (An enchanted forest in IL, USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Latin Lullaby (Audio CD)
As an educator planning to raise my children bilingually, I was very happy to discover this CD. My collection of materials would not be complete without it. It is absolutely beatiful and I can't wait to sing along to many of these songs to put my little one to sleep. I find listening to it now (baby is on the way) very soothing and would actually recommend it to anyone who wants to add traditional music in Spanish to their collection. This album is easy to listen to again and again.
Helpful to note: In addition to the songs sung in Spanish (some are quite beautifully sung in dialects specific to the country represented), the album has 1 song in Portuguese and 3 are instrumental. The liner notes give information about the artist and often the song. Also included is an English translation. While this is my favorite lullaby CD, I would also recommend María del Rey's "Lullabies of Latin America".

Lovely. Suitable for *all* ages.,

I don't speak Spanish or even have kids, but I'm totally entranced by this album.
I first heard it nearly six years ago when a friend was expecting her first child. Songs like `A la Nanita Nana' & `El Negrito Com/Al Nino le Gusta el Son' left me transfixed - - so much so that I had to buy a copy just for my 30-year-old music loving self! Totally genuine, not slick and "packaged" sounding like some of the other kids' (or adults', for that matter) recordings I've heard, this music is wonderfully soothing and engaging. Filled with haunting and beautiful melodies, rich and affecting vocals, deep emotion, and excellent musicianship. The passing of time has not dimmed my appreciation one iota, it's still as fresh and powerful today as it was on first listen. The fact that these are lullabies is mostly irrelevant to me, it's just great music. :) Highly recommended for everyone.

Latin Lullaby,

I love this CD. I own several CDs of Lullabies in Spanish, and I prefer this one since its songs are not over-arranged. It is very soothing and beautiful, so it fits its purpose better than a more jazzed-up performance. I can get my two year old to go to sleep quickly, and these days she is very reluctant to go to bed at night. I especially like the lullabies that are sung by their composers and original interpreters. The notes in the insert are informative. They include the lirics (I was able to sing "drume negrita" to my child for the first time. -- Although I own a version sung by Mercedes Sosa, I had been unable to understand all of the words). The notes bring up the problems the compilers had in finding traditional lullabies in Spanish. I felt frustrated when searching for lullabies, whether sung, or written down. Especially scarce are lullabies with musical notation. However, I think it's worthwhile to continue to search for more lullabies in Spanish. I would like to pass them down to my children. It seems that some of the traditional lullabies may not have been recorded but may still be found in written sources. Certainly if one can take into account traditional Christmas Carols in the form of a lullaby (like "A la nanita nana"), which seems to be the predominant type of Christmas Carol in Spanish, there are many more lullabies out there.

Hypnotic, Soul-Searching Music,

This CD is incredible -- my infant son was lulled to sleep by it, and it calmed him when nothing else could. Well, I missplaced the CD for about a year and a half, had another baby during that time, and found it today while I was doing a deep cleaning of our house. I popped the CD in, and my son (now three years old) sat there enchanted. I just now rocked him to sleep like I used to while listening to it, and it brought back a flood of heart-warming memories. Then I put my infant daughter to sleep, and it was touching to see her fall asleep to it, too. The songs touch your very soul, especially A La Nanita Nana.

My baby loves this CD- it makes him sooo sleepy. It makes us sleepy too! There is one song that is a little "upbeat" and not really "lullaby-like" but I would still give it 5 stars. The spanish lyrics are beautiful.

After searching for an authentic Spanish Lullaby for our son, I came across this cd. I am a music lover and I highly recommend it to any bilingual parents (Spanish) who are interested in exposing their children to authentic Spanish material. We play it everynight and sometimes more than once per evening. The instruments and the voices are soothing and perhaps reminiscent of an old abuelo, abuela or mama.

I love this and my two year old daughter loves this! She doesn't need it to fall asleep, so I can't review its effectiveness in that area, but we both love to have it playing anytime during the day. It's very calming and a good background music when we're doodling about the house. I have found it also helps her stay relaxed and perhaps a bit more creative. The watercolors she does when listening to it are wonderful! Alas - perhaps that's the mother in me talking. Regardless, we do think this a very fine collection.

Our family's favorite lullaby album!,

We originally purchased this cd for my two children to enrich their latin culture but found that us parents loved it just as much(even my husband who is not hispanic)! The kids ages 4 & 6 even picked up some spanish vocabulary and dedicated the "Nana nanita" song to their NANA who loved it and so we got a copy for her too.

My baby loves this CD!,

My baby boy, who is now 9.5 months old, was adopted at 7 months from Latin America. We listen to this CD every night, and before each nap. Every time I put it on, his eyes get huge, and he is mesmerized by the music. He listens to it very calmly for about 15 minutes, and then drifts off to sleep. I really like it, too. It's very, very calming. I highly recommend it!
