I just listened to Lucie Arnaz's new cd "Latin Roots". Folks, this is a must have for any music fan period. Lucie has come full circle here. She sounds incredible and knows how to really interpret songs. The arrangements are fresh and inspiring. Her choice of songs are a real tribute. The Arnaz legacy is alive and well here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Fun!, March 9, 2010

For great fun, don't miss the Lucie Arnaz "Latin Roots" CD. This is the perfect party CD with Lucie belting out such classics as "Babalu", Rumba Matumba" and "Johnny Angel". This CD will bring you to your feet making you want to dance around the house one minute and sing along the next.
I would have given this CD the full five stars, but Lucie fails miserably on the clunky "Just To Be Near You", but redeems herself with the brilliant bonus cut: "Leader Of The Band".

Oh yes, this CD gets 5 stars ... absolutely. It is beautifully produced with a great mix of songs and that intoxicating Latin beat that gets the heart pumping. Recently, I sat ringside at Feinstein's to experience "Latin Roots". Indeed it was an experience, and this CD keeps alive the memory of that very special evening. I'm sure Desi was around! It's a beautiful homage to the Arnaz heritage, and for us baby boomers it's a comfort in an uncomfortable world. It's not all Latin music, but those tracks are exceptional. There's a soft sway in "Johnny Angel" ... how long since you've heard that? Basia's "Promises" gets a Latin treatment. I defy you not to get grooving with "El Cumbanchero" and the coupling of "Babalu" and "La Copa de la Vida" is a pleaser. The last track,"The Leader of the Band", is a poignant tribute. Lucie's warmth and expressive personality shine through in this recording. I just smile when I listen to this CD ... I can't help it!

5.0 out of 5 stars HOORAY FOR LATIN ROOTS, THE LEGEND LIVES ON!, December 20, 2011
This review is from: Latin Roots (Audio CD)
What a terrific musical find. In one word "WOW" what a voice! Ms. Arnaz delivers each song with wondrous depth and passion for her musical material. You can feel the connection to her father in each expertly delivered song. Latin roots also has a great since of fun about it and is delightfully orchestrated. A special mention must be made to one song in particular "The music in your heart". Music by Joe Luckinbill (Yes her son) and Lyrics by Ms. Arnaz. To me it was reminiscent of many a Disney blockbuster classic. This is one talented family, holding the performance standard high. Hooray for Lucie Arnaz and Latin Roots, the legend lives on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good!, October 5, 2011

I attended her concert in New York City, it was a cabaret show. Lucie is an amazing performer, funny and moving.
She was performing songs from this exact album and it was very good. Good music for fans of Latin music and more. She sings a few of her father's songs like Babalu (of course) - in a very new sound.
Must have who is a fan of Ball-Arnaz union.

The daughter of two legendary TV giants---Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz is a talent on to herself. I am a life long I Love Lucy fan, which I admit was the impetus for me to initially purchase the CD. However, I am now a Lucie Arnaz true fan and realize how under value her talent is in the world of music. Her voice and charisma, like her father, oozes through each song. I especially love how she pays tribute to her wonderful and the forefather of today's Latin sound, Desi Arnaz. She beautifully sings his signature song Babalu that would make him proud!!! Truly her father's daughter in every way!!! Of course we can't forget who her mother was and the gene pool she inherited!!! I am so happy I was able to make this find!!! Wonderful CD

5.0 out of 5 stars A pretty lady is like a melody, August 16, 2010

Lucie Arnaz is an elegant songstress. There's an intimate and heartfelt approach to the material in this album. After listening to this beautiful, flavorful album, I can imagine her being wonderful in any number of venues -- her concerts/nightclub performances must be great. Would love to see her in revivals of a number of famous Broadway musicals: "The Kiss of the Spider-Woman," "A Little Night Music," or even in "High Spirits," as the put-upon, scene-stealing second wife of Charles Condomine, singing/lamenting "Was She Prettier Than I"? Maybe a Broadway-themed album? Maybe someday ...

5.0 out of 5 stars BABALU WILL NEVER DIE - Lucie Gives It Her All!!!, April 5, 2010
By
This review is from: Latin Roots (Audio CD)
This past Saturday, I had the esteemed pleasure of seeing Lucie Arnaz in concert for the second time in a year. Someone whom I've admired for her own talent, I tried for years to see her caberet act or when she appeared in theater. Once I got the opportunity last year, I jumped at the chance, and I'm glad I did. The updated show includes many songs from the new and delightful LATIN ROOTS. An album Lucie said she has been wanting to do for years because of her Latin roots on her father's side, she succeeds greatly. In selecting songs, she's gone to the great composers, newer composers (musical director Ron Abel) and even WOWS with three of Desi's big numbers greatly remembered from the "I Love Lucy" series, namely "I'll See You In C-U-B-A" (written by Irving Berlin, which I never knew),"El Cumbanchero" and Desi's theme song, "Babalu". Lucie teams up Babalu with Ricky Martin's "La Copa De La Vida" to great success, and even Papa chimes in towards the end in a Nat & Natalie Cole mix of voices of the past and present. Very effective & a great way to go out before the bonus track of "Leader Of The Band", a retelling of the Dan Fogelberg classic. Lucie also does justice to Basia's "Promises" and give it new life in 2010. Anyone who doesn't get up when "Rumba Matumba" comes on isn't living. You gotta move to it. The one unusual track is the 1962 hit "Johnny Angel". It moves great with a bossa nova beat and brings back another classic into this century. Eydie Gorme's "Blame It On The Bossa Nova" also gets the Arnaz treatment, with additional lyrics added for an updated version based on the forthcoming 30th wedding anniversary of Lucie and her husband, Laurance Luckenbill. Performed in the show, it was a delight....and Larry was there.

The packaging, photos and Lucie's personal liner notes totally make this a full package and a must for anyone who loves latin music, Lucie Arnaz, or the entire Ball-Arnaz legacy. Well worth your time.
