Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Maya Davis already has many titles—Christian, barista, maid of honor (new), possible girlfriend (newer), aunt (newest)—and her life is about to become even more complicated. Just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse, her ex-boyfriend proposes to her roommate and best friend, Jen. It’s not long until their apartment becomes Wedding Central. As if that weren’t enough, Jen’s obnoxious mom moves in to help plan the wedding, and Maya’s genius brother and sister-in-law announce that they're expecting. Then to top it off, there's the whole matter of Jack—is it love? Who wouldn't need a coffee break!

Erynn Mangum does not cease to disappoint. Each time she puts out her next novel... I can't help but sit down and devour the thing in a day or two. And LATTE DAZE is no exception at all. Mangum brings back her typical style mixing it with humor, real life, and the hard moments, and out comes a journey that's both fun and meaningful all in one breath.

Maya Davis is still working away at Cool Beans, knowing that with each day, she gets closer to when her now boyfriend Jack leaves to work at the zoo. And on top of all this, her roommate Jen is getting married to Travis, which means that not only will Maya have to deal with Jen's crazy mother, but also with all the members of Travis' family that she once knew when Maya herself was known as the "girlfriend" to Travis. And things just couldn't get more complicated, but when Maya Davis, coffee, and the heart are involved, it's bound to only get worse as things go.

Mangum continues her winning formula that worked so well with the LAUREN HOLBROOK novels (MISS MATCH, REMATCH, and MATCHPOINT) and really begins to transcend some of her earlier writing. Her settings and descriptions are better than ever here. And the humor is top notch. I had to stop reading for a moment as everyone stared at me laughing many times throughout. I always know that it's going to be a fun ride with any of Mangum's books. Her characters here seem to be somewhat stronger than in LAUREN HOLBROOK, and Maya almost seems more fun to follow.

**SPOILER WARNING**
The only thing that I can say as a slight caveat to everything mentioned above is the fact that I could see the events at the end of the book coming from the beginning.

Latte Daze is a perfect light, summer read.
The characters were so real and sweet. I couldn't help but think of the movie Bride Wars while reading this book and pictured Anne Hathaway as Maya. (Although, Maya and Jen were in no way fighting in this story). Maya and Jen have such a great friendship. They just seem so adorable. I completely fell in love with Maya's dog, Calvin. The way her parents dote on him reminds me of my dog!
Most of my Christian reading seems to be historical books, but it's so refreshing to read Christian chick lit. There's great messages throughout the book, too, so it's not just thoughtless reading! I loved how Maya stands up for her beliefs without being pushy. I think there's great lessons on how to deal with those who don't share Christian beliefs. I feel she was respectful of the other person, and gained respect in the process. And she kept a Christian attitude about Jen's mother throughout the story.
The description says the book is for teens, but the characters are in their 20s, so I think that adults would enjoy this book, too.
I haven't read the first book in this series, Cool Beans, but I do plan on reading it now. I didn't feel like I was missing out on any part of the story. I was filled in with important information from the first one as far as I could tell. I can't wait to see what else happens with Maya and Jack, and Jen and Travis in Double Shot, which comes out in October.

First off, let me say I'm not a fan of chick lit and I'm past the age of girlfriends getting married and the whole dating nightmare. With that said I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed this story. You get a little bit of everything with this story. You have the insecure Maya, you have the "perfect" (but sweet) girl living the almost perfect life, with Jen, you have the wicked mother with Ms. Mitchell and then the guys. Travis, Maya's ex who's dating Jen, Ethan the computer geek, co-worker and then there's Jack, Maya's longtime friend. I could write pages about Jack. I enjoyed not only the characters but the story, they come across as real people with real issues. I love how we see Maya search for God's help in her daily life. I loved the sticky notes.

This book had a lot of great reminders for me. First it reminded me how grateful I am that my parents were supportive of my marriage and who I was marrying. It reminded me that God wants a daily relationship with His children. Maya demonstrates the struggles that we all face and how we can look to God's Word for our guidance.

If you want something that is an easy read with fun characters that will make you laugh and cry that offers some good biblical principles about life then pick up this book.

If you don't like books that are overtly Christian then you will want to take a pass.
