5.0 out of 5 stars Keller "the Killer" Williams does it again, February 21, 2002
This review is from: Laugh (Audio CD)
Keller Williams blows my mind. Being a fan since back in the day, I was really looking forward to February 19th so I could get the new CD. The day couldn't have come any sooner. As soon as I bought the CD, I had to listen to the Studio version of Kidney in a Cooler (he rocks the live version on 'Loop'). Wow. He really brought that song up a few notches with a studio recording of it. Along with the help of a bass player and a drummer, the Keller Williams [Trio] sounds super! The only negative thing I can say about this cd is that Keller doesn't get AS loose as he has been known to on other albums. Maybe that cuz he recorded with 2 other guys and not just himself, but the sound still rocks. The best songs on the album are Freeker by the Speaker, Kidney in a Cooler, and Bob Rules!! Gotta love a song dedicated to the Price is Right!! And throwing in a little "happy gilmore" tribute was nice too.... if ya wanna know what i'm talking about, go out and buy this amazing cd. Totally worth everything!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best studio albums ever, August 1, 2004
By
Mike Young (Hampstead, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews

This album overflows with the following:

1) Innovation
2) TALENT
3) Cool tunes
4) FUN!

I think the most important fact to mention is that there are so many different styles of music represented on "Laugh", funk, jazz, bluegrass, and not to mention signature Keller Williamsjust to name a few. If you are a newcomer to Keller, buy this album first, it really gets you into his unique style. Afterwards, in the likely event that you can dig it, your attraction to the music will tell you what to do from there.

If you've never heard Keller before, but are generally a music lover, pick up a used copy for real cheap. It is definitely a must have for anyone who can appreciate music in it's purest form.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groovy, funky and entertaining, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Laugh (Audio CD)
A great compilation of a variety of music styles. As usual Keller keeps both ends of the deal with great lyrics and accompaniment.
You will laugh and get down at the same. Each song has its own legs and you'll will be happy there is a whole album and not just one good single.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keller is the coolest man on the face of this planet. period, July 4, 2003
This review is from: Laugh (Audio CD)
The only way to put this CD into words is to throw in a short lyric from "Kidney In A Cooler":
...When up walked the mechanic with the perpendicular teeth
Perpindicular teeth (repeat repeat, etc.)

This is a fun album. The coolness overflows. Like one other reviewer said- it has a way of staying with you for the entire day. Especially the verse on kidney where he is describing his double decker double wide!

Please do yourself a favor a listen to something by Keller Williams. This man is one of the most talented people out there right now. His songs are fun, and you can tell his is having a great time on every album he has done. The current album "Laugh", is a album I can put in the car get to where i'm going, and when I get there... I'm a different person. It just makes you happy.

A couple of the songs... "Freeker by the Speaker" is just this nice little song that stays with you all day... just a great one to start off with. "Hunting Charlie" was a song trying to sound like Charlie Hunter... and Keller if you ever read this. "Pretty damn close man" it's a great instrumental song. "Bob Rules" is the story of The Price is Right dream... I always loved the Price is Right... and "Kidney in a Cooler" kind of like Freeker by the Speaker, just one of those song that is just amazing, and stays with you. Hope you enjoy it.

A friend introduced me to Keller. I bought this CD and there's no going back. My 50 year old Father even enjoys Keller's tunes. If you're trying to decide which Keller CD to buy, Have no fear. Kids, his version of Ani Defranco's FREAK SHOW will keep pounding in your brain for days after hearing this disc. Alligator Alley, Kidney in a Cooler, they're all just too awesome. Do yourself a favor and buy this today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keller Williams a true artist!, March 8, 2011
This review is from: Laugh (MP3 Download)
Keller Williams is in my opinion an amazing artist with a unique blended style of music.
Laugh, released in 2002 is one of my favorite albums, it showcases his playful spirit and also his techniqual skills and musical genius. The first song Freaker by the Speaker, is my favorite on the cd. It is a fun song that combindes bluegrass, jamming and great lyrics.
Keller is not only a great recording artist with many cds and side project, he is an entertaining experienced live performer and will be playing at this years 15th annual All Good music festival July 14-17 2011 in West Virginia.
He performed 2 sets at last years festival and he is a truely talented musician and performer!
Check out Keller Williams CD "Laugh" and if you like it you should defiantely look into his other music and seeing him live!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Laugh, Groove, Laugh, January 7, 2008
By
Peat Moss "mulchmouth" (Washington, NJ United States) - See all my reviews

After hearing 'Freeker at the Speaker' on a local college station, I had to get more. My tastes run the gamut from classic rock, psychedelic, jazz/instrumental, folk, funk, blues; I think alot of stuff under the 'jam band' rubric is pretty played out and overly noodly, but after sampling "Laugh" (over and over), Keller gets a special pass. The songs are quirky and concise enough to be enjoyable and have some staying power. He's obviously indebted to bands like Phish, perhaps Ween, Dave Matthews, etc, and could be said to inhabit the same constellation, with a bit more folk/blugrass/funk thrown in. 'Kidney in a Cooler' should have anyone with a sense of humor and appreciation of a deep groove at least tapping their feet, probably dancing, and definitely busting a gut. The musicianship is great on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing, November 4, 2006
This review is from: Laugh (Audio CD)
there is a uniqueness to keller williams' music that is hard to describe. The one thing that I can say is that no other album makes me feel like smiling as much as this one does....In a day and age where its fashionable to be miserable, keller has done the exact opposite and made a record that tells you not to take life too seriously..

5.0 out of 5 stars Very awesome!, March 29, 2003

With Kellers awesome style and great guitar playing I fell in love the first time I saw him in concert! I have bought many of his cd's and this being the new one I thought I should say....GET IT NOW! He is so good at guitar you wouldn't believe it. 6 string, 10 string, or a 12 string guitar playing and yes he does play a 10 sting sound weird? I thought so but it is awesome! He plays some funky tunes, blue grass, and some very funny ones too!... You won't believe half the things he plays, you could probably hand this man any instrument and get some new funky style song out of him. Weather it be some plastic tubes that he plays by hitting his knee, or drums, or just his voice. When you hear a trumpet sound it is actually Keller just using his magnificent voice! You will surely fall in love with him as soon as you listen! All I want to know is when I am getting my Double Decker Wide?????
