5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and Enlightening March 18, 2012
By Lya
Format:Kindle Edition
First let me say that I have never reviewed a book before, even though I
rely on the reviews of others to help me select the books I purchase. Shame
on me!

Anyway, when I was browsing I saw the one-star review on this book and was
totally shocked by it, as I have read this book and found it to be very
entertaining, as well as useful. While I wasn't interested in every
person interviewed, there were several that fascinated me.

The book is non-fiction, and not meant to be roll-on-the-floor funny.
Rather, it provides background and gives insight into various comedy
celebrities, and it does a fine job of it. I only wish that the
interview with my personal favorite (Dave Barry) had been more extensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars For comedy buffs January 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was written for readers who are really "into" stand-up comedy. Mr. Archer interviews a great number of comedians, some very well known, some much less so. His research into each comedian's history is solid, the revelations he uncovers sometimes startling. In most instances, he's reasonably successful in teasing out the basis of his subjects' sense of humor and uncovering techniques they find useful in making their audiences laugh. All in all, this is a comprehensive and well-written study of contemporary comedic art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read July 19, 2014
By Kate E.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I grabbed this book because I like most of the people the author interviewed. The Lily Tomlin piece was my favorite. The author asks some interesting questions that I'd like to think of ask too if I had the chance. It is a quick read-something you can put down and come back to without having to remember what you read before. I like how they're quick interviews. I hope this author does another book l like this. I would definitely buy it.

This is a FUN read! I love all the comedians interviewed and the best part is it is their true voice. I love the "unedited" feel and Corey's questions show his love for and deep knowledge of the comedy world. This is an easy read since you can pick it up and read any chapter in any order. I read my favorite comedians first and then moved on to the rest. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insight into funny people April 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Author interviews lots of comedians and humorists, some more famous than others. Some of the discussions shed light on the interviewees; some not so much. I found the chapters interesting for the most part....
