Book Description

Laughing IS Conceivable is "One Woman's Extremely Funny Peek into the Extremely Unfunny World of Infertility."

What happens when a professional humor writer and former stand-up comic goes through months and months of fertility treatments? She uses her comedy background to help her cope with it all of course.

(Click on the book cover thumbnail for a look at what the experts are saying about Laughing IS Conceivable)

Laughing IS Conceivable was almost entirely written while the author was in the trenches going through IUI and IVF right alongside the reader... uncertain of the outcome. It uses humor to de-stress infertility sufferers, their families and medical teams.

It's relief for those who feel they just can't deal with infertility one minute more and that nobody truly understands.

It's a fun and cheap gift for those friends and relatives who still don't "get it".

It's a glimpse over the reception desk and at the other end of the examination table for medical professionals and their staffs who meet and treat infertile patients every day.

It also has been widely read by those who know nothing or care nothing about infertility but enjoy the humor in life's daily angsts that we all can relate to.

2.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't recommend this book to infertile friends July 30, 2014
Verified Purchase
It's always nice to have someone help you see the lighter side of such a difficult experience, but a chat with a good friend would have suited me better. It really bothered me that she she was so negative about IUI. She's not a doctor. Her words are opinions and not backed by statistics. There is enough pessimism about the odds without comments like hers worrying couples further. I wouldn't recommend this book to infertile friends for that reason.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! December 10, 2012

This book has some great insight. Reading it was like reading my own journal. You get to a place in your own journey where you think to yourself, it can't be like this for everyone, but it is! She said several different places in the book what I have said several times in the same situations. I loved it, and have already recommended it to a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Book October 28, 2012
Really enjoyed this book. While not a parent nor ever had a desire to be one, this book certainly helps understand those going through the fertility treatment journey which I know at times can be a rather bumpy ride. This might help make the trip a bit smoother by being able to laugh at some of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Short and boring November 1, 2013

I had high hopes for this one and was disappointed. Short, mostly boring and only mildly amusing is how I would describe it. Don't waste your $3.

This book is truly genius, I laughed my way through it, which is just what I needed! Only bad part, I couldn't put it down and read it in two settings, I only wish there was more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! Lots of laughs, tears and great info May 24, 2014
Verified Purchase
Hilarious, poignant, just about brilliant, this book is a must for anyone undergoing fertility treatments or even thinking about the possibility. I was laughing so hard and so loud, I didn't realize how much information had been packed into its pages. Yes, the process of conceiving under fire is detailed in all its pain and disappointment, also fear and loathing, but all the bad stuff is tempered with encouragement and inspiration. One question: Why doesn't Lori Shandle-Fox have her own show on Comedy Central? More from her, please.
